CoTZ is a company that believes in natural, healthier sunscreens for the face and body. By natural they mean no chemicals. The sunscreens they use are mineral based, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These are sunscreens that anyone can use and they are better for the body than chemical sunscreens. People are not prone to allergic reactions from these minerals, they are great for all skin types, the minerals will not irritate the skin, will not clog pores, they sit on the top of skin and deflect the sun’s rays so that they are not absorbed into the skin. The CoTZ mineral complex prevents heat build up on the skin, which can damage the dermis (top layer of the skin), it is also free of oils and fragrances. They have 7 different types of sunscreens. I tried out two of them, the Sensitive SPF 40 and the Natural Skin Tone SPF 40.
CoTZ Face For Sensitive SPF 40 $19.99
This extra gentle sunscreen is great for all skin types. It has transparent zinc oxide that acts as a sunscreen and also to sooth skin and manage irritation. It blends easily and also sits on top of skin to reflect UVA/UVB rays instead of the rays absorbing into the skin, as would happen with a chemical sunscreen. This formula is 100% free of chemical sunscreens, oils, fragrances and preservatives. It is soft, sheer and is perfect for those who have acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema or lupus. It is also great for those that have undergone laser treatment, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels. The gentle formula does not sting the eyes either.
This is my new favorite sunscreen. It goes on easily, blends in like a dream due to the micronized zinc oxide and acts to reflect the sun’s rays for a good long while. It contains 20% zinc oxide, which is the highest level I have seen. Zinc oxide is also used to help sooth skin irritations, burns, chapped skin, etc. That is why this is so great for sensitive skins.
CoTZ Face for Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 $19.99
This sunscreen has a tint to it and is good for fair, medium and dark skin tones. There is also one for lighter skin tones (that one would be perfect for me!). It has a great matte finish that blends in to the skin. The sunscreen is mineral of course, titanium dioxide 8% and zinc oxide 3.8%. It was a little too dark for me but it looks nice on and it good for those who don’t want to wear a foundation in the summer and who still want a little bit of color. It protects against sun-accelerated age marks. It also helps against heat build up on the skin which damages the dermis layer, helps to prevent pre-mature skin aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, age spots, and uneven skin tone. The mineral sunscreen reflects the UVA/UVB rays so that they cannot penetrate the skin. This gentle formula does not sting the eyes. This is gentle enough for those who have had laser surgery, chemical peels, etc., It is also good for those who have acne, rosacea, etc..
CoTZ has a few other sunscreens, all mineral of course, that are great for just about everyone. There is a pediatric sunscreen that has transparent zinc oxide, which is excellent for children. They also make a lip balm, with SPF 45, that contains the mineral complex they are famous for. CoTZ is a great company that makes sunscreens people have been hunting for. Many people cannot use chemical sunscreens and mineral sunscreens are hard to find. I got a sample of this stuff last summer in my Birchbox, and LOVED it! As someone who breaks out like crazy with normal sunscreen, it was perfect for my face.
