Rochelle Rae, the CEO of rae cosmetics, created the line because she was frustrated with the heavy makeup that was prevalent in the marketplace. She wanted makeup that would go with her active lifestyle, as well as her clients. Rochelle Rae wanted long wearing makeup with a more natural approach. I tried out two products from the line: surface primer SPF 20 and the mineral powder SPF 15. rae cosmetics has a complete line of makeup, all of which are long wearing and mineral based. This line is great for those who want to have makeup to beat the heat in summer or even wear to work out in.
rae cosmetics surface primer SPF 20 $42.00
This primer is a weightless, oil-free product that protects skin, evens out skin tone all while visibly diminishing imperfections such as fine lines and large pores. It re-texturizes skin to provide a smooth surface for makeup application and extends foundation and makeup wear. The lighter-than-air formula contains moisturizing anti-oxidants, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Vitamin E. It also helps protect skin from free-radicals with the anti-oxidant ingredients. The sunscreen ingredients are avobenzone 2%, octinoxate 7.5% and octisalate 5%. It does contain dimethicone, which makes the primer have slip and helps to make foundation and makeup go on smoothly. It also contains a small amount of titanium dioxide, which instead of acting like a sunscreen in this case acts as a reflective pigment.
I like this primer because it feels good on the skin. It allows makeup to go on smoothly and helps it last all day long. The silicone in this allows for good slip. I also like that it has a SPF 20, which is great if I am wearing a moisturizer that does not! This way I am covered either way. It also has a good number of anti-aging ingredients which can never hurt. Once on the skin the primer disappears completely leaving nothing but soft skin behind.

This mineral powder comes in 8 shades. I tried shade 10. It is triple-milled so that it brushes on easily, blends without streaking and lasts for hours without fading. This mineral powder has a water-resistant formula that will not crease, cake or smear in heat, humidity and is also sweat proof. Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E protect skin, moisturize and even heal the most sensitive skins. It evens out skin tone and masks imperfections. The powder has a very light feel and looks natural so that skin looks fresh, clear and vibrant.
I was very surprised that a mineral powder could last all day long. This is the only powder foundation that I have ever tried and actually liked somewhat. I use a large powder brush with this. I sometimes use this as a powder over my regular foundation if I want more coverage. This foundation has light to medium coverage, that can be built up as needed.
