Baking Soda for Health

Yes, I am doing another book review. This time it is a book that actually is closer to my niche. It is called Baking Soda for Health by Britt Brandon, CFNS, CPT. This book discusses 100 amazing and unexpected uses for sodium bicarbonate. We already know that baking soda is very useful. It is extremely affordable. In fact it is one of the most useful items to have in your house. If absorbs odors. It helps with heartburn (mix just a 1/2 teaspoon with a 1/2 cup of water). Just what else does this wonderful kitchen aid do? I am not going to go through all 100 of the uses here. I am going to go through more of the beauty uses.

Baking soda is good to help clean teeth. Yours and your pets. Use baking soda on your teeth to help clean and whiten them. It relieves eczema. A remedy of 1 part baking soda to 2 parts water applied to the affected area can help alleviate the symptoms. Baking soda helps to soothe sunburns with its anti-inflammatory effects. 1 part baking soda and 1 part aloe vera applied to the affected area will help soothe the sunburn quicker. The same ingredients, mixed differently instead 1 tablespoon baking soda and 2 tablespoons aloe vera help to relieve rashes. If you have skin irritations, just soak in a bath of baking soda. It also makes a great skin exfoliant. To make a skin scrub mix:
  • 1/8 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera
  • 1 cup brown sugar
In a bowl, mix all ingredients together, massage into skin to remove dead skin cells. Use up to three times per week. The solution can be stored in an airtight container for up to 7 days.

One way to help detoxify pores is to make a mask of 1 tablespoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon activated charcoal and 1/4 cup aloe vera. Apply to face daily and gently massage into skin's surface then rinse with lukewarm water. You can even use it as a dry shampoo. Or use it to help remedy swimmer's hair: 1 part baking soda to 1 part water applied throughout the hair and allowed to sit for up to 5 minutes is a good way to get the chlorine out of your hair.

All in all, this book seems well researched. I knew a number of the beauty tips all ready. I did not know about all of the health tips. I am going to discuss a few of them with my doctor first just to make sure it is safe first because baking soda is so alkaline. That is why it works so well, it is alkaline in nature and counteracts acids. I think that the author seems to know what she is talking about and she has written on other subjects similar to this so I will definitely heed her advice.

I will give you a tip of my own. To neutralize a peel or any acid used on the face, use baking soda mixed with water, 1 teaspoon to 1/2 cup water, then apply with cotton pad to face. This will neutralize any acid you have applied to your face. Including glycolic acid, salicylic acid, etc. So if you are in a bind and have applied any peel/acid to your face and are in trouble, it stings, burns and you cannot take it, apply baking soda.

Britt Brandon is a certified personal trainer and certified fitness nutrition specialist. She is the author of Apple Cider Vinegar for Health, Coconut Oil for Health, Ginger for Health, Activated Charcoal for Health, and The "I Love My NutriBullet" Recipe Book. She is a competitive athlete, trainer, mother of three small children and fitness/nutrition blogger on her own website (UltimateFitMom.com). Ms. Brandon is well versed in the holistic approach to keeping oneself in top performing condition and uses baking soda in many of her home remedies.

Baking Soda for Health retails for $12.99 in the US and $17.99 in Canada. It is available wherever books are sold.

Until Next Time~

  1. Home care is certainly good, but in my opinion it is already outdated. It may still be relevant for young skin, but it's certainly not for mine. I take supplements. I found one after watching Dermal Repair Complex reviews. I like that the supplement contains many good and useful ingredients (including vitamins).

  3. Thanks for the interesting article. Yes, baking soda is often used for cosmetology. But once I heard that there are men who use baking soda to improve men's health. However, some of these men must then turn to gainswave machine therapy because they have developed problems with erectile dysfunction. Therefore, I advise for all to be very careful with self-medication

  5. There are various nutritional and edible supplements that don't require a prescription or doctor's recommendation. I recommend looking into edibles with marijuana. You can find a full description of various edible supplements at West Coast Supply like https://westcoastsupply.cc/products/cannabis/marijuana/indica/, an online retailer I trust for their pricing, quality, and delivery.
