If you have never heard of Deciem, The Abnormal Beauty Co. or The Ordinary, then you are in for a treat. It is the best non-secret in the skincare world right now. Two brothers who happened to be biochemists decided they wanted to deliver quality skincare without all of the extraneous fillers in the products got together and made a company called Deciem. Inside this company, is The Abnormal Beauty Co. which carries multiple lines of products designed to focus on various different features depending on what you want to accomplish. Today, I am going to discuss a skin peel, which falls under The Ordinary line.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is an excellent high level peel for those who have a long history with peeling solution and peels in general. I would not recommend this for anyone who has not used high percentage acids or has chemical peels in their doctor's offices or with Estheticians, at a salon. Just because the price is low does not make it worth burning your skin over. THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR SENSITIVE SKIN. This formula should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Please make sure to wear additional sun protection and look at the other warnings in the provided Directions. Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

This peel is a 10 minute peeling solution that is recommended for anyone with peeling experience. It has a 30% solution of alpha hydroxy acids, including glycolic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid and citric acid. Glycolic acid comes from sugar, lactic acid comes from milk, tartaric acid comes from grapes and citric acid comes from lemons. It also has beta hydroxy acid in the form of salicylic acid, which comes from aspirin. The peeling solution also contains Vitamin B5, Black Carrot and Tasmanian Pepperberry. It has a pH level of 3.5-3.7. The skin's pH level is normally about 5.5. It is water-free, alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free and vegan. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) exfoliate the skin's topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) also exfoliate the skin with an extended function to help clear pore congestion. This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines with continued use.

This formula contains Tasmanian Pepperberry to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in color seasonally.  The color variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time, making it lighter or darker. This formula is further supported with a crosspolymer form of hyaluronic acid for comfort, Vitamin B5 to assist healing and black carrot as an antioxidant. As I mentioned, the pH of this formula is approximately 3.6. Glycolic Acid, the primary AHA used in the formula, has a pKa of 3.6 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, which maximizes the effectiveness of the acid and reduces irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic. While exfoliating acids can result in quick visible benefits, it is generally suggested that indirect forms of skin exfoliation are better than that of direct forms such as this formula due to potential inflammation and sensitivity associated with acids. Please refer to NIOD's Non-Acid Acid Precursor for such a reference.

How To Use: Clean face and wait for skin to dry. Do not use on wet skin. Apply evenly across face and neck using fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for no more than 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Avoid the eye contour and contact with eyes both during application and rinse off. This low-viscosity solution is intended to be used as a masque. Do not leave on for longer than 10 minutes. It is not recommended to use more than twice per week. Contact of the product with the skin must be of limited frequency or duration. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Refer to the in-depth guide to patch testing. Make sure to keep out of reach of children.

I have used this peeling solution with excellent results. For me, it is all about the peel. Since I have peeling experience I can use it a bit longer than most people. For me this helps decrease hyperpigmentation, it helps reduce fine lines, evens out skin tone and firms up skin. It is one of the better peeling solutions I have ever used. Yes, it goes on and burns the skin some but I just apply it and leave it on. The when I feel it's time to take it off, I take it off. Not one minute sooner.
