"BEAUTY SLEEP" IS A REAL THING
This article was originally posted on Proven Skincare.
You’ve probably heard the phrase “beauty sleep” so many times that you stopped wondering if it meant much. Well, it does: sleeping the right amount every night is an essential part of maintaining optimal skin health, and there are many benefits of sleep for both your skin and overall health.
Sleep is when your whole body does housekeeping to clean up and repair cells—and that includes your skin. During deep sleep, the natural rise in growth hormones repairs damaged cells. These are benefits of deep sleep only - so without the deeper phases of sleep, this won't occur, and your skin’s daily wear and tear will accumulates. You may be wondering, how much sleep do I need? The answer is between 7 to 9 hours a night. Continual sleep deprivation--meaning less than 7 to 9 hours per night--results in more noticeable signs of aging because the body isn’t able to repair itself.
During sleep, blood flow to the skin increases, helping to rebuild collagen and repair UV damage.
Regular sleep deprivation can lead to wrinkles, sagging skin, and dark circles under the eyes. When you sleep, your body delivers fluids to organs and tissues that need replenishing, and removes excess fluids
from other areas—those under-eye bags are pockets of fluid your body didn’t have time to drain. When you get too little sleep, your blood vessels leak a little, mixing with the fluids that are already there and creating dark circles.
Skimping on sleep also increases levels of the stress hormone cortisol throughout your body, which causes inflammation. In addition to contributing to signs of premature aging, lack of sleep effects such as higher cortisol levels further exacerbate skin problems like acne, psoriasis, and eczema.
The way you sleep can also affect your skin. As far as your skin is concerned, the best way to sleep is on your back. If you sleep on your side, you should get a skin-friendly pillow, such as silk or copper oxide. Silk is super soft and tightly woven, which minimizes rubbing and those funny-looking skin imprints. It also absorbs less oil and bacteria than cotton does, so it stays cleaner. Copper oxide pillowcases have copper oxide particles embedded in the fabrics. While it sounds far-fetched, the science behind it is pretty solid--copper oxide has been shown to benefit acne-prone skin, and may also help prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
“Copper is naturally antimicrobial,” says Susan Bard, MD, a New York City-based board-certified dermatologist. “In this case, the copper may help keep bacterial counts low. People prone to acne have reported improvement with copper pillow use. Copper is also a vital cofactor for collagen synthesis,” Bard explains. “Increased collagen production leads to improvement in fine lines and wrinkles.”
Whether or not a copper oxide pillow is in your budget right now, the basic three “musts” when it comes to maximizing your beauty rest are:
Always wash your face before going to bed
Always use a night cream that will maximize your skin’s repair processes
Always get 7 to 9 hours of sleep, so your body has enough time to replenish its cells, and enjoy the many benefits of getting enough sleep!

What Accessories Will Actually Do For Your Look
https://unsplash.com/photos/aXJdmnxauwY
When it comes to the way we present ourselves, we always want to look our best. Some of us around the world don’t mind and will rock any outfit and any design, but the majority try our hardest to impress. If it’s not to look good for a certain someone or a particular group, then it’s to satisfy our own needs.
The idea of looking good isn’t just a vain fashion aspect of life; it’s more than that. The human brain has the ability to judge things immediately – if we don’t like what we see, then we’ll use those negative first impressions when considered other facets later on down the line. The looks set the tone for how we treat others. It’s quite harsh at times, but that’s just how the human mind gets to know people and things.
We do all kinds of things to boost our looks. We work on a skincare routine, we work out in order to alter our physique, and we buy all kinds of different outfits. Something that sort of goes under the radar, however, is the accessories. Now, if you’re a fashionista that loves accessorizing, then you’re going to notice every single nook and cranny on someone’s get-up. Not everyone is like that, though. For those of you who don’t really know about it and never really add different pieces to your outfits, here are what accessories will actually do for your look. Perhaps you’ll learn a thing or two, and it’ll change your mind somewhat!
They Show Off Extra Bits Of Personality
Sometimes we mean to show people what we’re like in our minds, and sometimes we’ll do it subliminally and subconsciously. Whenever we do anything in this life, we like to leave our mark. We like showing people a little about what we’re like as individuals. When we pick an outfit and personalize it a little, we’re not just picking things that we like – we’re picking things that tell others about us. Accessories come in all different designs, shapes, colors, and sizes – if you wanted a gold nose ring shop UrbanBodyJewelry.com has to offer, then that can say something about you in the same way a pair of pretty earrings can. With this array of different choices, we can really show others what we’re trying to say and can tell people about us without saying a thing.
They Make Us Unique In Most Situations
When you have a group of people, it’s easy to look a little similar to everyone else. Your style is supposed to be unique, and you’re supposed to be a little different. Nobody wants to turn up to a social gathering looking absolutely identical to the person standing next to them. Accessories can make people go from an average Joe into someone that stands above the crowd. Even if you’re not the most confident person in terms of getting attention, you have to admit that positive attention is a nice feeling. If you like lots of attention, then this kind of thing is a no-brainer for you!
They Are Extremely Satisfying At Times
When it comes to accessorizing and trying to add little extras to our style, we can sometimes make something that looks very, very attractive. Some days we’ll make mistakes and conjure up something to forget, but with a little practice and perseverance, we can make something super pretty. When we make outfits and complete them with accessories, it can be very pleasing not only on the eye but in the soul, too.
Your Creativity Gets A Boost
This, of course, isn’t necessarily about what happens to your look, but the way it improves your creativity will mean future looks will be enhanced. The more we choose to accessorize, the better we’ll become at doing this later on down the line. Creativity is needed in life in order to live freer and with more fun! Life is all about learning new things and trying all kinds of different alternatives. It might even transcend fashion.
They Stop Us From Having A Somewhat Boring Look
Sometimes, creating a pretty boring look and hoping you don’t stand out happens. You don’t always have to be the best dressed or the most creative on the planet. Those moments are few and far between, though, as you’ll want to spice up your ensemble as much as you can, right? Life is all about habits and, if you consistently wear boring outfits, then you’ll get used to doing it. Accessorizing can put you in a much better and more rewarding habit.

5 Beauty Swaps You Need To Make
If you’ve got a habit of sticking to the same beauty products, you could be missing out on something even better. What’s more – there are plenty of beauty swaps that can enhance your skin and save you money. If you want to overhaul your routine, check out these five beauty swaps you need to make:
1. Switch Cream Foundation for Mousse
Cream foundation is great if you want maximum coverage, but it can feel rather heavy on your skin. If you want a good level of coverage but a lighter feel, try mousse foundation instead. The extra air in the formula gives it a lightweight feel and lets your skin breathe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy a flawless complexion.
2. Swap Matt Lipstick for a Satin Finish
Matt lipstick can look great, but it can dry your lips out and make them feel uncomfortable. Additionally, it can be tricky to get matt lipstick to last for hours, which means that you’ll need frequent applications. If you want to avoid the high shine of lip gloss and the hassle of reapplying matt shades, opt for satin lipstick instead. It will keep your lips more hydrated and offers a long-lasting finish. You’ll get the impact of matt lipstick, but the creamy formula makes it easier to apply, which means you can create the perfect pout in seconds.
3. Ditch Shaving Foam for Oil
If you routinely buy shaving foam or gel, you could save your money by switching to oil instead. In fact, you don’t need to buy any special formulas or products when it comes to getting soft, stubble-free skin. Apply a little coconut oil to your skin before shaving and you’ll notice better results, and enjoy more supple, hydrated skin.
4. Drop Mascara for Tinted Lashes
If you’re fed-up with mascara clumping your lashes together or running down your face in the rain, definitely you’re not alone. Fortunately, there’s a super-easy fix. Having your eyelashes tinted will make them look darker and more striking, which is exactly the look you’re trying to achieve with mascara. Eyelash tinting only takes around 10-15 minutes, but the results can last for up to six weeks, which means you can shave precious minutes off your makeup routine every day and enjoy fuller lashes for longer.
5. Scrap Wipes for Cleansing Cloths
If you’re still using wipes to remove your makeup or cleanse your skin, you might want to think again. It’s almost impossible to fully remove makeup with wipes, which means there’s a good chance they’re leaving debris on your skin, which could contribute to dry, flaking patches, as well as breakouts. Switching to a cleansing cloth and cleanser can transform your skin and it’s better for the environment too!
Streamline Your Routine
The right beauty swaps won’t just deliver better results, they’ll streamline your routine and make it easier than ever. Instead of spending hours struggling with complicated application techniques, you can look fabulous in minutes with these handy beauty swaps.
