I am not sure if you have ever suffered from keratosis pilaris (KP) or not, but if you do then this review is for you. I have suffered from it my entire life. Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition where by the keratinocytes that grow skin cells build up in hair follicles of the skin and plug them up. It usually occurs on the back of the arms, the thighs and the buttocks. When I was a kid I had it all over those places but as an adult it relegated itself to just the back of my arms.
The problem with KP is that if you exfoliate with by a physical means it can encourage the cells to proliferate even more and the hair follicles (or pores as they are often called) can clog up quicker. I firmly believe in a more gentle exfoliation, such as a chemical means, like an AHA or something to that effect. However, I have tried them and they usually don't work alone. You need something stronger. Enter urea. Urea is the ingredient that is expended in the urine of a pregnant mare (a female horse). Yes, it is an unseemly ingredient, but it can be synthesized these days.
The best thing I have found to work on KP is Eucerin Roughness Relief Lotion. I mean it works quickly. Like lighting fast. My nasty bumpy arms were taken care of within DAYS. Not weeks, not a week, DAYS. The main working ingredients in this lotion are urea, glycerin, ceramides and lactic acid. These are workhorse ingredients. Urea is a powerful exfoliant that will loosen dead skin, the keratinocytes in the hair follicles and literally peel them away. Glycerin is a powerful humectant that attracts moisture to the skin, allowing the hair follicles and skin to not be as dry as a bone for a change. Ceramides also help to moisturize and lock in the moisture that the glycerin hydrates the skin with. Lactic acid is another exfoliant that comes from milk and is a great ingredient to use on body skin, which is slightly thicker than facial skin. It works in conjunction with the urea.
I apply this only to the rough and bumpy areas. I save other lotion for areas that are dry and need extra moisture (which is the rest of my skin). I suffer from very dry skin. This lotion is so good. I noticed a reduction in my bumps immediately. And after 4 days of use I noticed such a reduction in my bumps that I was flabbergasted. After using is for over a week they were gone. Mind you, GONE!!!! We are talking nasty bumpy KP. I use it once or twice a day, and only on the arms. The big bottle should last a long while and the price is amazing.
