If you have ever read my blog before you know I am a HUGE fan of Supergoop products. I think I own almost all of their line. Anytime they come out with a new product I am there lining up to purchase it. Why do you ask? Because I fully believe in the benefits of sunscreen and their products are known as having the best of both worlds: you get world class products with excellent sunscreen in them.

Skin cancer is on the rise and it is extremely important to take precautions against it. I should know. I have had it twice already and I am just 49. I had basal cell carcinomas on my nose and arm. Plus 90% of skin aging is preventable with SPF use! Just think, using sunscreen EVERYDAY (rain or shine) can prevent future photo damage to such an extent. It is that important. It doesn't matter if you are black or white, use sunscreen. That being said, Supergoop makes products that are for all skin tones. Their sunscreens do not have any whitecast to them, so women of color can wear them easily.

Supergoop's newest product is called Daily Dose Vitamin C + SPF40 Serum. This is a revolutionary new type of product genre. It is a two-in-one high potency Vitamin C + SPF40 serum that helps to visibly brighten skin and prevent the two main causes of dark spots: UV light and blue light. Vitamin C is mainly effective when worn with SPF, so Supergoop combined the two into a the first-ever hybrid serum that combines your "essential daily dose" for more visibly brighter, healthy-looking skin.

Clinical results of an independent study show that:
  • 91% said skin appears brighter*
  • 94% said skin looks healthier**
  • 94% said skin felt instantly more hydrated
(*after 1 week of use, **after 8 weeks of use)

Daily Dose is formulated with a clean chemical SPF40, because apparently Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide like different pH levels, so you cannot put a mineral sunscreen and Vitamin C together. Instead it contains the chemical sunscreens:  Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 9%, Octisalate 5% and Octocrylene 6%. So if you are allergic to any of these, do not use it. The type of Vitamin C it contains is a 14% Brightening Complex of 10% Vitamin C (3-O Ethyl Ascorbic Acid), which helps to improve skin's radiance and luminosity; 2% Kakadu Plum Extract, that also helps to improve skin's radiance and luminosity; 2% Niacinamide, to even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of pores.

From a professional standpoint I can say with a fact that these ingredients are excellent to have as brightening agents for the skin. At this percentage, 10% 3-O Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is directly involved with collagen synthesis in the dermis and is the most stable form of Vitamin C available. Studies have shown that it has great results with skin brightening. Kakadu Plum is a potent antioxidant and has a large amount of natural Vitamin C in it. Niacinamide at the 2% level is the most standard percentage for evening out the skin tone and reducing the look of pores. It is a well known and popular ingredient in serums to help brighten the skin.

This serum also contains Pseudoaltermonas Ferment Extract (a marine extract) which helps to provide protection from blue light. It is a strain of bacteria isolated from mud, found in King George Island, Antarctica. A soothing moisturizer/humectant, it has skin-protecting and anti-aging abilities. The bacteria helps to promote skin regeneration and protects skin from dryness and redness due to cold weather. It also stimulates collagen protein synthesis in the skin (see here for more information http://bit.ly/2YGAcOa).

The serum itself is white, rather thick and viscous. As serums go it is unusual in texture. It is recommended for all skin types, which means it is non-comedogenic. I don't necessarily like the way it smells, as it smells like a sunscreen. When it first goes on the product feels like it is going to sit on the skin but it does sink into the skin quite quickly. It leave a little bit of a tacky feel on the skin so unlike most serums, which disappear into the skin completely. This is much different than a regular serum, even a regular Vitamin C serum. But I like the results I have gotten with it. I have been using it since it first came out almost everyday and I must say that it brightens very well.

Below are photos of my face before and after:

before using Daily Dose

after using Daily Dose

You can see the significant difference that is apparent on my forehead from the before and after. That is where the main portion of my hyperpigmentation had accumulated. I had one spot on my cheek but it also disappeared. The results are extraordinary. For a Vitamin C serum it produces great results in a short amount of time. I would credit the great ingredients and use of the sunscreen. In order to prevent hyperpigmentation, you have to wear sunscreen. Once the damage is done you can only treat it. But this is a great way to treat it!

I think this serum definitely works and is something worth considering if you want to brighten your skin. Considering its ingredients, it works very well at helping to get rid of minor hyperpigmentation. Any skin type should be able to wear this as it is non-comedogenic and absorbs well into the skin.
