DERMA E Bonding Hair Repair Oil

If you have damage to your hair from chemical treatments such as hair color then you would benefit from a hair repair oil that bonds. Recently I was able to try the one from DERMA E, Bonding Hair Repair Oil. It is a clean, highly concentrated and weightless bonding oil that strengthens and boosts shine while helping to repair damaged hair and minimizing flyaways & frizziness. Hair ends up looking gorgeous, with a silky soft finish. This oil has been formulated with a unique blend of adaptogen* Chaga Mushroom to improve color and hair vitality and support having  healthy hair and scalp. Jojoba Protein helps repair damage to hair and moisturizes hair while working to prevent split ends, dryness and breakage. Nourishing Amla, Coconut and Mongongo oils moisturize, strengthen & protect hair dramatically increasing shine, softness and color vibrancy.  These nutrient rich moisturizing oils  help to promote hair thickness and support hair growth too. Also included in this bonding oil is Sunflower Seed oil, which is high in Vitamin E, helping to promote healthy hair growth. Safflower Seed oil is a light oil that is used to help grow long, strong hair. It penetrates deep into the hair follicles and nourishes them. Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) is an antioxidant that, as mentioned above, helps to promote hair growth and fights sun damage to the hair by protecting the hair cuticles. There is also some Linseed oil, which helps to combat frizziness in the hair. Finally, beta carotene is included because it prevents dry scalp and dandruff, which is a large problem for many people with chemically treated hair. It also promotes hair growth. (*a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress and to exert a normalizing effect upon bodily processes)

To use: gently work into clean, wet hair from roots to tips and then style hair. For best results, first wash and condition hair with your favorite DERMA E shampoo and conditioner. 

I was lucky that my hair happens to be bleached in certain areas and I can test out the benefits of this product and how well it works. When you bleach the hair, it breaks one of the 3 bonds that holds the keratin protein of your hair together. Perming solution breaks the other bond and chemical relaxing can break the remaining one, which is why you cannot apply a chemical relaxer to hair that has been bleached or permed. It falls apart. It is also why, when applying a permanent to hair that has had bleach on it will become literally very gummy in texture (I used to go to cosmetology school before I became an Esthetician and learned this in high school). There is only so much you can do to the hair before it falls apart. 

So I washed and dried my hair, which has been highlighted and lightened with bleach. I applied the Bonding Hair Oil to my hair. Since it has been lightened, my hair is normally very dry and damaged. It requires a lot of conditioner, treatment oils like Argan oil, etc to make it not frizzy. I use at least 3 oils and serums applied to my hair after shampooing. After using the Bonding Hair Oil I was able to get rid of two of them. I still felt that I needed a detangler because my hair tangles easily. I see this an an improvement of great significance. Anytime that I can decrease my hair care routine, I see that as an improvement. This Bonding Hair Repair Oil is definitely lightweight and has a wonderful scent, it smells like Sweet Apricot Oil (which has been added for fragrance only). So I think that is nice too. Do I think it is really repairing my hair? Not sure. Olaplex works nicely but still has to be reapplied too. Once one of the bonds is broken in your hair it cannot technically be repaired because the cells are not living anymore. Keratin consists of dead keratinocytes. However, this product does improve frizziness, flyaways and helps make the damage less noticeable. As for helping with hair growth, only time will tell on that front. Would I use this again? Definitely. Purchase it? You bet. So far it has help up its end of the bargain and does it at a reasonable price too.
