Which Essential Oils Should You Be Using On Your Skin?

Which Essential Oils Should You Be Using On Your Skin?

Makeup products are great. But there are some people out there who absolutely swear by essential oils for the skin. It all comes off the back of centuries of tradition where people would gently rub concentrated plant extracts on their faces to enhance how they appeared.

Today, we know that some essential oils are downright dangerous and you shouldn’t apply them topically. However, there are others that are absolute superstars, totally changing how you look.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood essential oil is nature’s cure for people with breakout-prone skin. It contains special antibacterial agents that the cedar tree uses to protect itself against infiltration by pathogens. Just add a couple of drops of it to regular non-comedogenic oil and rub it into your skin. After a few weeks, you should notice an improvement in redness and swelling.

Argan Oil

Most commercial skin product manufacturers use argan oil as an ingredient. But why involve the middleman? Why not just go directly to the source?

Argan oil is a source of vitamin E and helps fight dry skin and wrinkles. It’s also great for people who want to absorb nutrients directly through the skin. Plus, the effects show up almost immediately - just a couple of days will do the trick.

Kukui Nut Oil

Kukui nut oil is an ancient Hawaiian secret for smooth, beautiful skin. But how can you learn more about it? Glad you asked! You can go to Sowourplanet.com for reviews of the best skincare products and ingredients. Here you’ll find articles that explain what it does in more detail.

People use kukui mainly as an anti-aging ointment. It’s able to hydrate the skin, stimulating collagen production, the dermal component that keeps our complexions looking youthful. Just apply it to the target area (such as crow’s feet around the eyes or smile lines next to the nose) and allow it to work its magic.

Grapefruit Essential Oil

Grapefruit essential oil comes from the discarded seeds of the grapefruit plant. Not only does it smell great, but it can also help balance sebum in people who have oily skin, according to townandcountrymag.com

Take a few drops and rub them between your fingers. Then apply to a freshly-cleaned face, targeting areas prone to greasiness or breakouts. The grapefruit oil contains nutrients that help to rebalance the skin and improve its microbiome.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is strong stuff. Evidence suggests that it’s able to relieve muscle and joint pain, as well as cut the symptoms of itchy skin conditions, such as pruritus. What’s more, breathing it in can help to alleviate stress and fatigue - great for people who are feeling a little worn out by the stress and strain of life.

While it doesn’t have any direct effects on the skin (that we know of), its mood-improving properties offer indirect benefits. When you’re less stressed, your skin naturally improves.

Orange Essential Oil

Orange oil helps the skin because it contains high concentrations of vitamin C, a critical ingredient in keeping it moist and healthy. Use this oil to give your skin an irresistible glow!

Until Next Time~
