I Am THE Makeup Junkie’s March Hit List #iamthemakeupjunkie #hitlist

This month’s HIT LIST is all about some of the best products that I have come across this past month. Run to your store and grab these great products while you can get your hands on them because these are some of the best of the best! I have chosen 5 of the best things that I have come across this past month.

Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette
get_electric
This summer Urban Decay, the hippest cosmetic brand around, introduces an electrifying pressed pigment palette. This palette of 10 high pigment eye shadows is just about one of the best I have ever used. All of the pressed pigment eye shadows in the Electric palette are so highly pigmented that I am agog. This palette is not for the faint of heart. You must want to be bold and beautiful to wear this. Eight of the shades are new. Chaos (a bright blue), from the Vice palette is back and so is Revolt (metallic silver shimmer) from the Anarchy Face Case.

The palette also comes with a great double-ended eye shadow brush that allows for excellent pressed pigment application. The shades are velvety smooth with great payoff and very little fallout. Urban Decay developed a new formula just for these eye shadows, to get this crazy amount of pigment. Each eye shadow has the Pigment Infusion System™, which is their proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability.  See my review: http://bit.ly/1pG5BW4

$49.00 Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette is $49.00 and is available online at www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com, www.macys.com, www.beauty.com and www.urbandecay.com and from Sephora, ULTA and select Macy’s stores.

Paula’s Choice The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

Paula's Choice The Nude Mattes (open)
If there could be something akin to a perfect eye shadow palette, The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette would likely be it. I read about this palette online and immediately had to order it. The famous YouTube makeup artist Wayne Goss had a large role in deciding the contents in this palette and let me say “thank goodness!”

This palette consists of 12 buttery smooth eye shadows and a flat rounded synthetic bristle brush for applying the gorgeous shadows. Did I just mention that these eye shadows are gorgeous? Well they are. Beautiful . Buttery. Smooth. Amazing. This palette is the best thing since sliced bread. Not only are they great eye shadows, but all of the colors are wearable. They are blendable and have little to no fallout. How perfect is that? All of the shades are highly pigmented. This includes even the lightest shades, which is refreshing. Usually palettes have light shades that are just slightly pigmented. This palette has light shades that have turned up the notch on pigmentation and are perfect!

The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette is available at www.paulaschoice.com for $40.00.

Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask

malinandgoetz detox face mask
I received the coolest mask in the PopSugar monthly box the other day. It is the MALIN+GOETZ Detox Face Mask. The Detox Face Mask. This 5 minute wonder is the winner of Allure Magazine’s Editor's Choice Best of Beauty Awards (2008) Best Deep Cleansing Mask. An easy and innovative mask that has oxygenating cleansing agents to replace harsh detergents and drying clays. The wonderful gel mask foams up as it stays on. What is so great about it is that it gives your face a deep-pore-cleansing: lifting dirt, oil and make-up away from the skin without irritation, while creating a physical barrier to seal hydration. Complex amino acids and natural almond extract gently and effectively purify, clarify, balance and soothe the skin. It also has stable Vitamin C, antioxidants Vitamin E, green tea extract, and soy protein to help firm aging skin while brightening the complexion. Ingredients like squalane, glycerin and sodium pca are excellent at moisturizing and hydrating the skin. Then panthenol firms and soothe the skin. This mask is great for brightening skin, giving it clarity.

It can be used as a mask or as a cleanser! Just apply a thick layer then wait 5 minutes or until the dissipation of the foam begins, up to twice a week (in place of a cleanser), twice a week.  If used as a mask, oilier skins should use at night and apply a thin layer on the skin for deep cleansing and oil control (remove with warm water and a washcloth). Drier skins can apply a thin layer daily in place of cleanser (tissue off without water).

Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask 4oz. / 118m $40.00 is available on www.malinandgoetz.com and various stores that carry the brand.

L’Oréal Youth Code™ Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher™

Youth Code Pore Vanisher Pore Vanisher™ is a fresh and light airy cream that works to instantly diminish and vanish the look of pores on the face. It also works to shrink actual pore size in one month. How does it work?  Pore Vanisher™works on three dimensions to shrink pores: depth, number and size. When it is first applied instantly pores appear almost completely vanished and skin feels hydrated. Perlite absorbs excess oil for an all-day, shine free, smooth finish. In one day LHA micro-exfoliates to visibly smooth skin’s surface. In one month pores begin to snap back into shape as the highest concentration of Perline-P strengthens and tightens pore walls to shrink actual pore size.

I’ve been using Pore VanisherTM for over a month now and I can say with certainty that my pores do appear smaller. They have not completely shrunk in size to appear invisible, but they are much smaller in size than they were a month ago. I do think that the ingredients that are in the formula do help decrease pore size somewhat. Prior to using this product I would have said that was impossible. Pores (or hair follicles as they are really called) cannot usually be shrunk in size once they have been dilated. Sebum and dead skin cells clog the follicle, increasing its size and causing it to look larger. Then you usually have oxidation of the contents in the ‘pore’, which are blackheads. So, to decrease pore size is everyone’s wish. It seems as if L’Oréal has actually gone and found a way to accomplish this! Apply Pore Vanisher as the last step in your routine prior to foundation, as it works best as a primer. You will notice a difference in about 3 weeks. I think it works fairly well, enough that you will be happy with it. See my review here: http://bit.ly/1ff3NSs.

L’Oréal Youth Code Pore VanisherTM retails for $24.99 and is available from www.lorealparisusa.com, www.ulta.com, www.drugstore.com, www.walgreens.com, www.cvs.com, www.walmart.com, www.riteaid.com and mass market retailers  nationwide such as Walgreens, Wal-Mart, CVS and Rite-Aid.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads

first aid beauty facial radiance pads

I am a HUGE fan of alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy acids. I firmly believe that exfoliation is one of the better keys to looking young and vibrant. So, whenever I receive a product to tryout that has AHA’s or such, I am a happy camper! The Facial Radiance Pads from First Aid Beauty (FAB) are a great example of how you can incorporate AHA’s into your daily skincare regimen.

The Facial Radiance Pads brighten, tone and exfoliate the skin with just the right amount of lactic and glycolic acid, so that even the most sensitive of skins will be able to use them. They help to diminish fine lines, help to reduce pore size and improve skin clarity. The pads also contain cucumber and Indian gooseberry to tone the skin.  Lemon peel and licorice root leave it bright and glowing (kind of like a light bulb!). The pads do not contain any parabens, dyes/colorants or harsh chemicals.

I have tried many brands that have “exfoliant pads”. I would definitely put these pads on par with the other brands. Why? Simply because this product is great for sensitive skin. It was designed to exfoliate yet be gentle enough for someone with sensitivity issues. It is very difficult to make a product like this, as AHA’s in general are harsh and can cause severe irritation in sensitive skin. In addition to the other botanicals in the formula, there is also hyaluronic acid, mandarin orange extract and feverfew extract. The hyaluronic acid helps to add moisture back into the skin. The mandarin orange extract helps to soothe the skin. The feverfew extract is an anti-inflammatory. I think that this formula has been made to be as gentle as possible. I’ve used the product for a month now and have found it to be a good exfoliant. I like that it is gentle and I think it will be great for those with sensitive skins who desire to chemically exfoliate their skin, rather than with a physical exfoliant. If you are looking for such a product, then this is the perfect choice for you!  See my review here: http://bit.ly/1pG78vo.

First Aid Beauty’s Facial Radiance Pads are $30.00 for 60 pads and are available at www.firstaidbeauty.com, www.sephora.com, www.beauty.com and www.skinstore.com.

So these are my picks for the month of March. These are all items that I reviewed this month and I believe are very exceptional products. I hope that you like them as much as I do!

Review: Secret Deodorant Destinations Collection #Secret #DestinationsCollection

Secret Deodorant, the brand that brings you the most effective deodorants and the most beautiful scents to the deodorant market. now brings you a new Destinations Collection. Three scents, reminiscent of three different fabulous and fun places that are meant to evoke scent memories and give you the best perspiration protection that you need.

secret deodorant brazil rainforest mistsecret deodorant paris romantic rosesecret deodorant hawaii citrus breeze

The Destinations Collection is available in Invisible Solid, Clear Gel and Body Spray forms. I was able to try out the Invisible Solid scents. There are three scents: Brazil Rainforest Mist, Paris Romantic Rose and Hawaii Citrus Breeze. To determine whether or not this collection would be right for you, it is first a good idea to determine how much your perspire. After that, you can get a good idea whether or not this collection is going to fit your needs. The Secret Destinations Collection has excellent perspiration control and also very good odor control. It offers 48 hour odor control protection. The scents used in the formula are also long lasting, so you will feel fresh all day long.

I love the scents offered in this formula. Especially the Brazil Rainforest Mist, which is so fresh smelling that I almost cannot stop myself from sniffing around the middle of my body! The scents are strong enough that you can smell them but not too overpowering to wear them. Brazil Rainforest Mist brings you back to a refreshingly tropical paradise. Paris Romantic Rose is not too strong that it smells like perfume, the rose is light and a beautiful airy rose scent. Hawaii Citrus Breeze is a fun, light scent that almost reminds me of a candle. It is so nice to smell! The perspiration control is great too. Since it is up to 48 hours, you can skip a day without having an issue that will affect perspiration and odor control. This is great in case you forget it or cannot use it one day.

The Secret Destinations Collection scents are available at mass market retailers and also at www.drugstore.com. They retail for $4.99-$5.99. Review: Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette #UrbanDecay, #Electric

urban decay electric eye shadow palette
This summer Urban Decay, the hippest cosmetic brand around, introduces an electrifying pressed pigment palette. Urban Decay_ Electric Eye Shadow Palette

The pressed pigment shadows in this palette are as follows (descriptions taken from the Urban Decay website, as their descriptions are so spot-on): Revolt (bright metallic silver shimmer w/silver glitter), Gonzo (bright turquoise matte w/ floating tonal pearl), Slowburn (bright red-orange matte w/floating pearl), Savage (bright hot pink matte), Fringe (bright metallic teal), Chaos (bright blue matte w/floating tonal pearl), Jilted (bright metallic fuchsia w/blue shift), Urban (bright metallic purple), Freak (bright green w/gold shift) and Thrash (bright lime green matte w/floating gold pearl).

(swatches from left to right are in order of the case: Revolt, Gonzo, Slowburn, Savage, Fringe, Chaos, Jilted, Urban, Freak and Thrash)
LOOKS

I did two looks with this palette to show you that normal, everyday moms can wear it. Even though I am a normal everyday mom, I still l love to play with color. This palette gives me the chance to do that. I especially love purple. Purple is the color that really helps to bring out the green in my eyes, so I will use it more than any other color eye shadow.
Look 1: Shadows used in this look are: Urban on entire lid up into the crease. Then above Urban I used Jilted and blended it up into the Revolt, which I used under the brow. I also used Urban under the eye, to line. I used the new Urban Decay Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner to line the upper lid. And I used Supercurl Mascara on my lashes. On my cheeks I am wearing NARS blush in Love and Lancôme Rouge in Love Lipstick in Peche Passion.

Look 2: For this look I used a few shadows. This is more of an experimental look. I used Chaos in the crease then I used Urban in the outer 1/3 of the lid and under the eye to line. Then I used Savage on the inner upper lid and a little bit of Slowburn on the upper lid in the center. I used Revolt under the brow and blended it with Chaos. I lined the upper and lower lids with Buxom’s Waterproof Eyeliner in Door’s Unlocked (Shimmery Purple) and under that I lined the upper lid with Urban Decay’s Ink For Eyes Liquid Eyeliner on the upper lid. I used SEPHORA’s Lash Stretcher Mascara in Black on my lashes. On my cheeks I used NARS blush in Final Cut. On my lips I used NARS Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Bimini.

These are excellent pigments/eye shadows. They go on like velvet and they blend like a dream. I think that Urban Decay has gone and done it again. They always provide great products and I do think that this is worth every penny of the price. If you like bright, beautiful eye shadows then this palette is definitely for you!

Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette is $49.00 and is available online at www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com, www.macys.com, www.beauty.com and www.urbandecay.com and from Sephora, ULTA and select Macy’s stores.

Review: Apothederm® Stretch Mark Cream #Apothederm #stretchmarks

(photos courtesy of www.apothederm.com)

stretch mark cream
The Stretch Mark Vanishing Act
Stretch marks are often, along with cellulite, the bane of a woman’s existence. Any woman will tell you that stretch marks and cellulite are pretty much up there with the things we hate the most about our skin. If we find something that actually does something about stretch marks, you can bet that we will shout it from the roof tops!

Apothederm® Stretch Mark Cream promises to do something about stretch marks. I was skeptical. I have heard that many creams promise to get rid of stretch marks but with little success. Apothederm® Stretch Mark Cream reinforces the skin’s fundamental support structures and helps to visibly repair existing stretch marks. It is formulated with a patented SmartPeptide® technology that helps build up collagen and reduces the appearance of red and silver stretch marks, all while smoothing your skin’s texture.
This cream evens skin tone, protects skin to prevent future stretch marks from forming, leaves skin soft and moisturized and it supports and firms skin.  Most of all, the Apothederm® Stretch Mark Cream is effective for old and new stretch marks. Results can be visible in as little as 2 weeks, and they will continue to improve over time. Visible results in as little as 2 weeks with continued improvement over time.

This cream has great ingredients in it that make it effective. A blend of 4 emollients, shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and highly moisturizing meadowfoam seed oil  to make a fast-absorbing lotion. Add the patented heptapeptide-7, resveratrol, licorice extract, brightening amino acids, algae extract, sodium hyaluronate and other advanced ingredients that work to fade the appearance of stretch marks and nourish the skin. Heptapeptide-7 is a  is a bioactive SmartPeptide® that boosts collagen and helps support tissue. It is made of 7 naturally occurring amino acids that are commonly found in the skin and is modeled on the natural defensed found in our own body’s repair system. Using this helps our body repair itself. Shea butter is a great emollient and it moisturizes and protects against dehydration. Meadowfoam seed oil is also a wonderful emollient and contains a naturally occuring tocopheryl (Vitamin E) and protects against moisture loss. Olive fruit oil and cocoa seed butter hydrate and soften the skin. Sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) is a super humectant, drawing 1,000 its own weight in water into the skin and maintaining hydration in the skin. Resveratrol  is an anti-oxidant a licorice root is an anti-irritant that helps reduce discoloration in the skin.

I did notice that my stretch marks have been reduced in size and discoloration. I would show a photograph but honestly I am very shy about the area they are in (my stomach from childbirth). I have horrible ones that have come from giving birth to two children and just having any sort of decrease in their size and color makes me happy. They didn’t go away but I do not expect miracles. I do think that I would say there is a 30% decrease in discoloration and size.
Apothederm® Stretch Mark Cream comes in a 5.7 oz./160 g tube and is  $89.95. It is available from www.apothederm.com. Review: Sundari Chamomile Eye Oil #Sundari #Chamomile

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I had the chance to try out SUNDÃRI Chamomile Eye Oil recently. SUNDÃRI means “a sundari chamomile eye oilbeautiful woman” in Sanskrit. It is a distinctive collection of anti-aging skincare products that are created from the purest ingredients and rarest essences that have been distilled from nature. They blend modern science to achieve immediate results with botanicals through ancient wisdom. The products have organic ingredients wherever possible, there are no synthetic dyes or fragrances in any of the products, the essential oils used in the products are therapeutic grade, the products are not tested on animals and all of the products have been dermatologist tested. SUNDÃRI combines adherence to Ayurvedic principles based on an ancient eastern philosophy, delivering a holistic approach to wellness that results in outer radiance and inner serenity. Their customers consistently experience noticeable results.

Chamomile Eye Oil

The Chamomile Eye Oil smoothes and replenishes the delicate skin around the eyes. It helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Because chamomile is an anti-inflammatory, these benefits help to make this oil an essential part of the SUNDÃRI eye care protocol. The oil helps to improve skin elasticity around the eyes and it brightens and rejuvenates the skin around the eyes. Because the oil functions like a serum, it provides a wealth of nutrients to the eye area.
A 4-week study showed that 64% of users felt that their eyes looked smoother, had better texture and had fewer lines and wrinkles. Users experienced 44% improvement in spacing of fine lines and 26% improvement in spacing of Crow’s Feet. Fifty-two percent of users rated the Chamomile Eye Oil a better product than their current eye treatment. The best way to use the oil is to apply one drop on your fingertip and press gently around the eye orbit. Concentrate on the areas where there are any fine lines and wrinkles.

The formula also has avocado oil, aloe vera juice, sweet almond oil, Vitamin E and Vitamin C. Avocado oil is excellent at skin nourishing, aloe vera juice acts as an anti-inflammatory and is very soothing. Sweet almond oil also nourishes and revitalizes the skin. Vitamins E and C are great anti-oxidants that fight off free radicals.

I love this oil! It only requires a tiny bit to use around each eye (one drop), so it is very economical. After application it sinks right into the skin. Using it makes the skin around my eyes feel so soft. The ingredients in this are perfect to help lines and wrinkles decrease and disappear.

SUNDÃRI Chamomile Eye Oil  is $48.00 (0.3 fl oz./10 ml) and is available from www.skinstore.com. Like SUNDÃRI on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SUNDARI?ref=br_tf.

Review: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths #Cetaphil

product_gentleskincleansingcloths
Cetaphil has taken its award-winning Gentle Skin Cleanser and put it in a convenient cleansing cloth. The Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths leave you feeling fresh and clean. The skin’s natural pH balance is not disturbed and the skin is not left feeling dried out, but left feeling soft and clean. These gentle, cleansing cloths are ultra-soft, are dermatologist developed and tested, as well as ophthalmologist tested. Feel confident in their ability to remove dirt and makeup without any irritation. They're also fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. These cloths are also excellent for travel.

I found these to be great at getting off most of my makeup. I did have a little bit of trouble getting off some of my heavier eye makeup. So I had to use another cloth to get it off. It did get all of my foundation and lighter eye makeup off though. My face felt fresh and not dry in the least. My daughter, who has sensitive skin, tested them out also and found them to be great at getting off her makeup. Another thing I like about these cloths is that these are great for taking to the gym or on a trip. Use these anytime you want to feel refreshed and clean.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths come in a package of 25 cloths for about $10.99. They can be purchased from the following places: www.amazon.com, www.cvs.com, www.drugstrore.com, www.target.com, www.bjs.com, www.samsclub.com, www.walgreens.com, and www.walmart.com. Changing Seasons, Changing Skin. #Skincare #Seasons #ChangingSkin #spring

spring photo
Spring. Warm weather. Flowers bloom, leaves on the trees and grass grows. When the seasons change, your skin decides it is going to change too. It goes through hormonal changes and sometimes those changes are not fun to live with. Usually from winter to spring skin gets a little bit more oily and you might get more acne. You also need to kick up the SPF a few notches to account for the increase in sunshine. Not only do you get allergies in your body but you might get skin allergies too!

So what are you going to do about these changes? The best thing to do is to adopt a new skincare routine. Every season needs a good skincare regime. I advise that each season you look at how your skin is acting and adapt your regime for that season. You may find that you do not need the products you were using the past few months. Keep them for future use, as you may need them again in any other season.

In spring skin tends to get oilier as the weather ramps up and gets warmer. This means that cleansers might need to be changed and moisturizers will need to get a bit lighter. First, if you are using a cream cleanser then you might want to switch to a detergent based cleanser. This just means one that is a gel or foaming cleanser. If you can get one without sulfates, even better! It needs to be one that will not strip the face, leaving it dehydrated and tight. A cleanser should leave the skin feeling soft, not squeaky clean. If you like a toner, this would be a good time to try a new toner that helps to balance the skin and renew the pH balance after cleansing.

The heavier creams we use need to be moved to night use only or may need to be moved out of the regimen for another season. Serums will be great for this time of year and for summer too. They are lighter in nature, pack a lot of anti-aging or anti-acne ingredients into a nice, light product and they do not overpower the skin. I am all for using as many serums as possible in a skincare regimen! Especially a serum with anti-oxidants that will help kill of free radicals.
Make sure to increase the SPF you are using too. Always leave the house with a SPF 30. I say any time of the year, even winter. Try to make it a mineral sunscreen if possible. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are great sunscreens. These ingredients are just about the best of the sunscreen ingredients you can find. They block the sun’s rays and actually work as on the skin too. Zinc oxide is an anti-inflammatory ingredient and titanium dioxide is a white pigment that is also used in makeup as a pigment.

If your acne flares up in spring and then gets worse in summer, try salicylic acid first and then move up to heavier players such as glycolic acid, malic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These need to be used a prophylactics and not as spot treatments. It is better to prevent rather than treat. Benzoyl peroxide works great as a prophylactic acne treatment. Start with a low 2.5%. Then work up to a 5% if needed. Use all over the area that gets acne. It can be drying so use 1x per day and every other day if it gets too drying. It is the better acne medicine. Make sure to use white towels, white pillowcases, etc. as it bleaches fabrics. Acne is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum in the hair folicles (pores). See my article on what is acne and how it is treated: http://bit.ly/1jCKE13. Make sure not to over dry the skin.

You will also need to adjust your masks and treatments. Mud masks are nice to use in the spring. I would suggest trying out some new detoxifying treatments for the spring season. These are a great addition to a routine, they help balance out the skin and can actually help with acne too!
I hope that this has helped you get an idea of what to do for spring skincare.

Until Next Time~
Marie
