Yes, there is a way to achieve the Emerald eye look that is hot this year without looking like you are trying out for a production of “The Wizard of Oz”. When Pantone announced that Emerald was the hot Color of the Year (see my post on the SEPHORA items I reviewed, http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2013/03/review-sephorapantone-universe-color-of.html), I was very happy. However, I can assure you there were many people out there who were not excited. Green is a hard color to pull off sometimes. I am rocking the red hair, so green is a look that goes naturally with my look. If you have brown eyes, green also looks good and can make the brown pop. This post is about taking a few choice items that are hot for summer and doing a total green eye. Hey, if a 42-year old mom who lives in the suburbs can do it and walk around living a normal daily life, why can’t you?
For this look I used the following items:
- Christian Dior’s 5 Couleurs Couture Coulour Eye Shadow Palette in Peacock ($60.00), lime green shimmer, light peach shimmer, light aqua shimmer, light taupe-green shimmer and dark sea blue shimmer.
- Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Limelight ($30.00), matte light lime green
- Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Electric ($20.00)-turquoise green, limited edition, not available anymore
- Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched-$21.00, medium honey tan.
- NARS Highlighting Blush ($29.00)-peach beige with shimmer
- MAC frost lipstick in Fresh Buzz ($15.00)-iight pink with shimmer limited edition, not available anymore
The one thing I know is that when I invest money in a few key items like a Dior quint or a Chanel mascara, I will not be disappointed. The Stila liquid liner happens to be the perfect complement to the look. Plus it is waterproof like the mascara. I would recommend it along side any of the UD liquid liners. The other items I used, such as the Pixi bronzer and the NARS blush, are new items that I wanted to try out. I like them a lot. The MAC lipstick happens to be my favorite color. I think I remember which collection it was from (Metamorphose? Metamorphosis?, all about butterflies!)

Below you can see the look. For this look I used the dark sea blue shimmer in my crease. Then I decided to used the lime green shimmer in the outer corner of my eye and underneath it as a liner. I used the aqua on the lid. I used the light peach shimmer under the brow. The upper lid was lined with the Stila liquid liner and I used the Chanel lime green mascara on the upper and lower lids. I had used it yesterday too and it comes off very easily with a good cleanser (such as Maybelline’s The Flash Clean http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2013/01/review-maybellines-flash-clean-clean.html). I used Pixi’s Beauty Bronzer on the hollow of my cheeks. I have to say that this is my perfect bronzer. It is subtle and just slightly shimmery. The color is not orangey and it is a nice warm tone. I highly recommend it. I am sure you will see me rave about it some more! Then I used the NARS Miss Liberty Highlighting blush on top of that, above my cheeks. Finally, I swiped my lips with Fresh Buzz, my favorite MAC Frost lipstick. I hope they bring this back. I use it sparingly. It is a beautiful color!!!!! It makes my lips look full and luscious, don’t you think?
Full face, from this angle you can see just a glimpse of emerald.
Eyes open, see the full “emerald” eye look
Close up of eyes
Eyes closed, see placement of eye shadows
Full face, can see bronzer on cheeks and lips
LIps, MAC Fresh Buzz makes them look very full.
So this is my emerald eye look for summer. I would love to see some links to your fun eye looks! Please leave a comment below to an eye look that screams summer. Thanks!
