Well, it’s officially summer now. Thank goodness, right? This past winter was very harsh on us and our skin. Summer can be just as harsh if you don’t do right by your skin. I am going to give you some tips (and product suggestions) that will help you have great skin all summer long.
Cleanse And Exfoliate
Cleansing and exfoliating skin in summer is one of the best things you can do to keep your skin free of blemishes. Skin ramps up sebum and cell production, meaning that you have oily skin and dead skin clogging your pores more than you did in winter months. That means more blemishes (pimples) and blackheads. Bacteria that lives in your hair follicles will be causing the blemishes to actually act more like pimples than just plain whiteheads, so you need to ramp up cleansing with an anti-bacterial cleanser if you have really oily skin or you can use a purifying cleanser. Algenist has a new one that I LOVE their Purifying & Replenishing Cleanser, it melts away makeup and purifies the skin all in one step. Neutrogena has an anti-bacterial cleanser that is great too, their Oil-Free Acne Wash. This one is good for younger skin or skin that has more blemishes.
Then exfoliate skin to rid yourself of extraneous dead skin cells that help clog up the pores. boscia has a new one, Tsubaki Oil-Inufsed Exfoliating Powder that actually exfoliates lightly or deeper depending on how much you want. What is great about this powder is that it actually enhances hydration of the skin at the same time! Or, you can always use alpha-hydroxy acids, such as the Dr. Dennis Gross alpha beta peel.
Moisturize
Keep skin hydrated. Even if it is oily, skin needs to stay hydrated. Use lighter moisturizers, such as gel moisturizers. L’Occitane has the perfect moisturizer. It is called Hydra Vital Gel and has Essential Oil of Angelica in it. This light gel sinks right into skin and hydrates even the driest skins with pure moisture. L’Occitane has a whole line dedicated to hydration and vitality that includes Angelica, which keeps skin looking youthful and well hydrated. Philosophy also has a great line of moisturizers that are great for blemish prone skin or aging skin. Miracle Worker for Blemish Prone Skin is brand new and has ingredients for wrinkles and blemishes! It kills two birds with one stone,
Use Sunscreen
More important than anything else is sunscreen. This the number one thing that will keep your skin looking younger looking more than anything else. This year sunscreen is better than ever. L'Oréal has a few new ones out that I absolutely love. One I really like is for the face, Silky Sheer SPF 50+ a broad spectrum sunscreen for the face that sinks into the skin made with chemical sunscreens. They have it in a BB form too. For the body they have a spray one called Quick Dry Sheer Finish Spray 50+ With Heliplex UVA/UVB and antioxidants. It is oil free, has weightless coverage, is non-greasy and non-sticky. It is so good that it dries in an instant! boscia has a nice one for the face that is called Daily Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA +++ and has chemical/mineral sunscreens. don’t worry, if you need mineral sunscreen, there are so many choices now. Aveeno has many, as does Coola, which has an SPF 30 matte tint.
Summer can be quite fun when your skin is in good condition. Make sure to take good care of it every day. If blemishes are really bothering you, then step up your routine by going to a professional (esthetician or dermatologist) for a new routine and product suggestions. I hope this has helped guide you some.
Until Next Time~

Yes, without sunscreen we end up looking old and wrinkly, not to mention the risk of skin cancers like melanoma!
