CoverGirl ultra smooth hair smoothing foundation
January is a great month for cosmetics. This is the month where cosmetic companies come out with all of their post-holiday product launches. All of the launches bring a plethora of fun goodies that every beauty junkie cannot wait to get her hand onto!

CoverGirl has come out with a few new things, one of which is a new foundation. This foundation is called CoverGirl ultrasmooth foundation. It is a foundation with a special applicator that helps to smooth down hair as you apply the foundation. The applicator is a piece of pink silicone that is small and round. It is very floppy and difficult to use. You squeeze out the foundation onto the applicator then apply the foundation to the face. As you apply the foundation, you move in the direction of hair growth, smoothing it downwards thus smoothing hair down as you go. This foundation is also supposed to cover blemishes, redness and uneven skin tone. It contains optical concealers and Olay skin-smoothing serum to help cover all of these. The foundation has medium coverage with a natural finish. It comes in 12 shades that are in a range from Ivory 805 to Soft Sable 875. Ivory 805 is light enough for my skin tone.

So, how easy is it to apply? Does it indeed provide good coverage as advertised? The applicator makes applying this foundation somewhat troublesome. I find that in using the applicator, as opposed to my regular beautyblender sponge, it takes much longer to apply the foundation. It spreads easily enough but to blend well is not easy. It takes a very long time to blend the foundation and make sure it is properly smooth. The way you are supposed to apply it is downward, which makes it tough to blend easily. It does smooth down hair somewhat but not completely. I feel it does have good coverage though and it does cover blemishes, redness and uneven skin tone very well. I am just not happy having to use the applicator. Maybe eventually I would get used to it and get a better feel but I don’t think so. I think I will take this foundation and use my beautyblender instead. I like the foundation itself but I am not fond of the applicator.

CoverGirl ultrasmooth foundation retails for $14.49 and is available at mass market retailers, such as Walgreens, nationwide. 1. Outlast is great for a person who prefers matte skin. With built-in concealer and primer, consider it the Swiss Army knife of drug store foundations.
