If there’s one thing we learned backstage at NYFW S/S 2016, it’s that the days of subtle spring beauty looks are officially OUT and bolder colors, edgier look are IN. Rebellious, dark makeup, hair and nails were all over the runways – setting the scene for a no-rules, dark-vibes for springtime.
Among the pros at NYFW was Katie Jane Hughes, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador, who created bold makeup and nail looks for top shows like Creatures of the Wind, Nicole Miller, Tadashi Shoji and new designer MONSE Maison. The biggest trend was cool, sexy black – COTW and Nicole Miller two big trendsetters - while the free-spirited nails at Tadashi brought new meaning to ombre and the makeup at MONSE redefined how to wear black liner.
What Katie says: “Spring beauty this season isn’t about playing by the rules. Black nails and edgy details are going to be a trend for spring. Skin and lips will stay fresh, so the focus stays on bold eyes, goth nails and perfectly-imperfect rebellious hair.”

The Scoop: Simple yet bold, the nail look was inspired by the punk vibe of the collection. Four high-shine nail colors were assigned to models based upon their look. Toes were kept a simple, bold black.
