Review: Mucinex Maximum Strength & Mucinex DM Maximum Strength #Mucinex #MucinexDM

'Tis the season. Not for the holidays but for coughs and colds. Already I have had one cold this season (the first in 5 years!) and thank goodness I had received these samples of Mucinex and Muicnex DM to sample. I have long been of fan of these products. If you have any kind of congestion at all, you need an expectorant and Mucinex is the one to have. It is amazing.

Mucinex and Mucinex DM are two different products but both do essentially the same thing: they are expectorants that relieve chest and nose congestion, thin and loosen mucus secretions and Mucinex DM has the added power to control cough. Mucinex has the active ingredient in it called Guaifenesin. I received the 12 hour kind so it has 1200 mg of the active ingredient. The Mucinex DM has 1200 mg of Guaifenesin and Dextromethorphan HBr 60 mg, which is a cough suppressant. It also lasts 12 hours. Mucinex and Mucinex DM comes in packs of 14, 28 and 42 bi-layer caplets. They are to be taken by adults 12 years and older. Do not use for children under 12 years of age. It is important to consult a physician if you have emphysema, chronic bronchitis, a cough from smoking, asthma or a cough accompanied by too much phlegm.

When you take either of these pills, make sure to take them with a large glass of water (at least 8 fl.oz.). You will notice that your congestion starts to clear up, your secretions start to loosen up and thin out and you will stay this way for 12 hours long. You may still cough with the Mucinex, but it will be easier to expel the phlegm. That is what an expectorant does. If your cold or cough lasts more than 7 days, a cough comes back, or occurs with a fever, rash or persistent headache, you need to see a physician. These are signs of something more serious such as a sinus infection, strep throat, scarlet fever, pneumonia, etc.

Next time you have a cold or cough, think Mucinex or Mucinex DM. You will not be sorry! Mucinex Maximum Strength retails for around $18.49 and Mucinex DM Maximum Strength retails for around the same price. They can be found at mass market retailers nationwide, such as Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, Target and Wal-Mart.
