Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub & Mint Julep Masque
Queen Helene has long been known for their Mint Julep masque and Mint Julep Scrub, which have been staples of the line for many years. I recently did a review of a few Queen Helene products and decided I wanted to try the Mint Julep products to see how they were for myself. And what better day to try them on than Kentucky Derby Day, the day when the Mint Juleps are being served more than any other day.

If your skin is looking lackluster, dull and tired, wake it up! The Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub for oily and acneic skin is perfect for deep cleansing of the face. It helps to unclog pores by getting rid of dead skin cells and helps to draw out impurities. Hydrating glycerin helps to maintain skin's moisture balance. After using this intense scrub, skin will feel softer, fresher, cleaner and like new.
This scrub is intense. It is not intended for those with sensitive skins. It has walnut shell powder, which gives an intense scrubbing. I found this scrub to be invigorating. But, I would recommend it for acneic skins only without any extreme breakouts such as pimples, pustules, etc. This is good for oily skins, combination skin, normal skin and even dry skin can use it once in a while.
To use: gently massage scrub onto moistened skin avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water or a washcloth (if necessary). Make sure to get off all of the scrub. Use up to 2x a week.

If you think about Queen Helene, immediately you think Mint Julep Masque. And since it is Derby Day, today is the perfect day to remind you of its awesomeness. This mask has been around forever and there is a good reason why. The original, all time favorite green masque instantly absorbs excess oil, extracts impurities and helps to minimize the appearance of pores. After using, skin is deeply clean, with a fresh, oil-free feel and healthy looking complexion. Skin feels amazing, like all the gunk and funk has been cleaned out and skin is once again fresh and new.
This masque does contain mint, spearmint to be exact. So I would not recommend it for sensitive skin. It is recommended for acneic and oily skins. I think acneic skins could handle it specifically those with pimples and pustules. Oily skin, combination skin, normal skin and even dry skin could handle this mask.
To use: apply over cleansed face. Avoid eye area. After 5 to 10 minutes, when mask is dry, rinse with warm water, can use a washcloth for extra exfoliation. Skin will be pink from the blood coming to the surface of the skin (from the mint). Use 2x a week for most, 1x a week for dry skin.
Here I am wearing the Mint Julep Masque:
I love this mask. It was once a favorite of mine as a teenager. These days my skin is drier and I cannot use it as I once did. This is a great mask for acne. The mask does contain zinc oxide, which is an anti-inflammatory. It does help soothe the skin. The mint helps to freshen the skin and bring blood to the surface of the skin, which speeds healing. And then the zinc oxide will help to soothe redness and unfortunately it needs something anti-bacterial in there for the pimples but the clay in the mask helps to draw up oils and bacteria.

One thing I like is the new retro look of the packaging. It's fun and hip. All of their packaging has this new retro vibe to it. Queen Helene Products can be found at mass market retailers such as www.amazon.com, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, Target and Wal-Mart. Queen Helene also makes other popular products such as Cocoa Butter Crème and the Volcanic Ash Masque.
