3 ways to recognize counterfeit cosmetic products
There are 3 ways to recognize and avoid buying these products:
Price
Number 1 on the list is of course the price. These products are often manufactured against industry standards, in bad conditions, using cheaper alternatives to the proper ingredients. This is reflected in the retail price which could be half or even a third of the original price of the brand name we are used to seeing in drugstores.
Place
Avoid buying products from unknown or unlisted retailers other than the ones specified on the brand’s website, or in distributor locations around the world. If you do buy a cheaper product from let’s say a market on the street, you are more likely buying a counterfeit product and could harm yourself – there have been many reports of people using fake cosmetics with many health complaints.
Packaging
Last but not least is the packaging – even though many producers in China and around the world who make counterfeit cosmetics have really mastered the art of imitation, there are hints that suggest a product is fake. Slight package discoloration, the illustrations and logo are not right, the social media icons are off, and for example, if you buy an eyeshadow palette, the color pigments inside are also the wrong tone.
All in all, it is important to avoid purchasing these products because health comes first – brand name cosmetics will remain, but there is a time and place to buy it.
