How To Avoid MASK-NE In This Hot & Humid Weather

For the past few months i have generally avoided discussions of the corornavirus or COVID-19 because I figured that this is pretty much escapism and you would not want to hear about that coming from yet another source. However, since wearing masks has become a daily chore for most of us and the weather is hot and usually humid, I would like to take this chance to discuss with you how to take care of your skin so that you do not get MASK-NE (mask acne). If you are outside a lot and wearing your mask or in the heat and find yourself wearing it then you will find yourself getting hot. Especially if you are wearing makeup under the mask. That doesn't go to say you cannot wear makeup under it, you just have to make sure it is the right kind for your skin and that you are using the right skincare products for your skin type. Also you want to avoid a fungal infection with these masks.

First and foremost, wash your masks after every use (the kind that are reusable). This gets rid of any bacteria that is on them that would come  your breath and from your mouth. How you wash them depends on how they are made. I would say wash them in a clean container or sink that has been cleaned with bleach. Soak them in hot water that has a tiny amount of bleach (1/8 tsp.) in it and Woolite. Unless they are black masks, then no bleach. Or use non-chlorine bleach for those that are not white. With hot water and Woolite. Add some hydrogen peroxide to the water, 1/8 tsp.

For your skin, make sure you wash your skin according to your skin type. Since the weather will be hotter and more humid generally, I would recommend a good facial cleanser such as CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. It controls oil and is good for dry skin too. Wash in the morning with warm water and make sure to use a good toner with witch hazel around the area of the face that wears the mask. This helps kill any bacteria that accrues in the pores. At night, when you wash your face, remove makeup with a makeup wipe, cleanse with the cleanser and then use the witch hazel toner. Especially at night is when you really want to pay attention to your skin. Try Glow Recipe's Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. It has AHA's to help get rid of dead skin cells and to help make skin glow again. Always make sure to wear sunscreen during the day. Supergoop Unseen SPF40 is the perfect one for ANY skin tone, it is clear, goes on clear and stays clear. It works as a primer too.

If you are going to wear makeup, make sure it is waterproof and sweat resistant. That way it won't get all over your mask. And yes, wear sunscreen under your mask, because it might not cover enough of your skin to cover up the sun's rays. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN!!!!!!!!!

If you do these things you should avoid any mask-ne or folliculitis. Just keep your face super clean and your masks clean too. Stay healthy and safe.

Until Next Time~
