MY SKINCARE REGIMEN THAT KEEPS MY 49 YEAR OLD FACE LOOKING 30-SOMETHING!

I have always had good skin. My genetics proceed me in this. My mother and father didn't suffer from teenage acne and neither did my daughters (luckily). I only started to suffer acne lesions when I became older had had issues with birth control, specifically the Mirena IUD, which can cause acne and whiskers on the chin. The only thing I really needed to work on was getting rid of all of the nasty sun damage (photodamage) that I did to my skin when I was little. My first memory of a sunburn is going to Nags Head Beach in the Outer Banks, NC and I got sun poisoning one day when I was 5. I was so sick, itchy, throwing up, sunburn, fever, it was awful. But that was only the begging for sunburns. The last major sunburn I got was in Greece on my honeymoon when I was 25. I got a doozy of a sunburn on my back and face from laying at the beach. My in-laws put Greek Yogurt on my back for 3 days until I could wear a shirt again. Boy did that help. The lactic acid in the yogurt is anti-inflammatory, helps with redness and soothes irritation.

Over the past few years I have made it my mission to get rid of the nasty hyperpigmentation that I have accumulated in my facial skin. I wanted more of a glassy skin texture and to get rid of all of those "freckles" which are photodamage. I have a special regimen that I follow and special products that I usually use. I am going to make it privy to you so that maybe you could use these products too and try and get skin as good as mine. Remember, next year I am going to be 50!

My skincare cycles every 3 days: on day 1, I use Differin Gel for acne (adapalene gel 0.1%). The reason I use this is that dermatologists recommend that if you can stand it to add another retinol to your regimen if you can take it. This one also fights off acne lesions. On day 2, I use whatever skincare I want, usually Jet Lag Mask or a Sleeping Mask over a serum. Day 3, I use Retin A 0.04% mixed with Clindamycin 1% and Azelaic Acid 7%. The Clindamycin is for acne lesions and the Azelaic Acid is a brightening agent. The Differin is OTC now. The Retin-A I get from Curology, you can go online and get a credentialed exam and see if it is right for you. On the days where I am using Differin and my own skincare and Retin A, I am still using a serum after cleansing and toning, then possibly another serum or two, then eye cream and moisturizer. I am also thinking of increasing the Retin A. It has been a year.

I try and take all of my make up with a cleansing balm and a cleansing wipe. Then I use a toner and a hydrating Cream Skin that is new on the market. One thing I love to use in between Differin and Retin A is Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, that mask soothes the skin like nobody can and it leaves skin super hydrated. Also, always take your makeup off before bed.

So that is my routine. I also do peels and exfoliation too. Peels I limit the time depending on the peel. I have one peel that I have to limit to one minute at a 30% Glycolic Acid and the other acids won't play with me. These help build new collagen in the skin. I also like to use masks every so often during the day. Definitely during the day.

Make sure and take care of yourself. Wear sunscreen outside. I am not lying when I comment that I have already had skin cancer two times. I had a precancerous lesion removed off of my face and a basal cell carcinoma removed from my left upper arm last summer. Always wear at least a SPF30 if not higher and reapply after two hours. And now most sunscreens can be used by people of all skin tones.

Until Next Time~
