I have reviewed several GLOW RECIPE products, as the K-Beauty company is a virtual powerhouse of great skincare. I absolutely love all of their products and am a very happy customer. Today I am going to review one of their newer products, the Watermelon Glow PHA & BHA Pore-Tight Toner

This toner is a powerhouse of great ingredients. First off, you get to hydrate your skin and tighten the pores all at once with this ultra-gentle toner for supple smooth skin. A good toner should be an essential part of any skincare regimen and this one rits the bill nicely. Toners help prep the skin and plump it to readily absorb the rest of your products. This one in particular minimizes the look of pores and helps to hydrate the skin at the same time, which is unusual in most toners. It has gentle yet effective pore actives such as PHA (polyhydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acid). This toner was inspired by the Korean Aqua Peel Facial which focuses on the duality of exfoliating and hydrating, this pore perfecting toner helps achieve instantly glowing, pillow-soft skin.

In a clinical survey:
  • After 2 Weeks 90% of subjects saw a significant reduction in the appearance of pore size* (of 30 women).
  • After 4 weeks 100% agreed their skin felt hydrated and replenished. 96% agreed this toner helps keep their pores clean and clear; 96% agreed this toner has made a difference in their skincare regimen**.(based on a consumer survey)

The key ingredients in this toner are the following. Watermelon is an amino-rich extract that intensely hydrates, soothes and improves the appearance of fine liens, wrinkles and dark spots. Cactus water contains electrolytes and amino acids that hydrate and help retain moisture. This ingredient is what gives the product its springy, stretchy texture. PHA or polyhydroxy acids help to exfoliate and smooth skin, while also removing buildup of dead skin cells. PHA’s larger molecular size allows it to sink into the skin more gradually, giving your skin more time to adjust and react, making it ideal for anyone, even some sensitive skin types. It provides effective retexturizing and smoothing results with minimal irritation. PHAs also have antioxidant benefits and humectant properties that help to hydrate the skin. BHAs are an oil-soluble ingredient that effectively penetrates the pore's outer surface and decongests clogged pores, making it one of the most effective ingredients in reducing the appearance of pores and blackheads. The formula includes 2 types of BHA: Willow Bark, a gentle, natural source of BHA, and sugarcane, birch, and royal azalea tree-derived Betaine Salicylate.

To Use As A Toner:  Cleanse, and then move on to this first liquid treatment in your routine. Dispense into the palm of hands and gently pat into skin—don’t wipe away or rub. Follow with your serum, moisturizer, and SPF or overnight mask (depending on the time of day!) If you prefer to use a reusable cotton pad, you can dispense the product onto the cotton pad and gently pat into skin. Again, don’t wipe or rub to minimize friction. Avoid eye area. During the day, follow with sunscreen.

To Use As A Spot Treatment: After cleansing, apply to areas of concern and pat into skin until fully absorbed.
Pro Tip: Try using Watermelon Pore-Tight Toner as a mini mask! After cleansing, soak your cotton pads with Watermelon Pore-Tight Toner and leave on your skin for 10 minutes. Follow with your usual skin-care routine.

I would recommend this for any skin type, except the most sensitive skins. Those who cannot handle acids for example. Otherwise it is a wonderful, great way to help decongest your pores and hydrate the skin at the same time. Skin always needs hydration, even if you have oily and acneic skins. Often the products used to help get rid of sebum on the  skin dehydrate it, so this will help to add extra moisture to the skin, keeping it from dehydrating. Personally, the toner is very expensive and I just like to use it as a toner, not a mini-mask. But I am finding that it does work very well and leaves the skin feeling amazingly clean, soft and supple.
