1 fl.oz./30mL $7.90

The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane. If you haven't heard of it before, you will have in a few minutes. As an Esthetician, I can honestly say I recommend it because it is an ingredient that naturally occurs in our own skin and is a fabulous emollient. What does that mean exactly? Well it means that it holds in hydration and helps to prevent ongoing loss of hydration that will impair the skin's own suppleness. It is non-comedogenic, so it will not clog pores (the hair follicles) and can be used on all skin types (even acneic skins). Squalane can even be used on the hair to increase heat protection, add shininess and reduce he potential for breakage. This brand offers a 100% pure plant derived Squalane that is ECOCERT approved and is a USDA Certified Bio-based product.

To use: apply a few drops (just a few mind you, this is an oil) daily, or as needed to the entire face after your water-based treatments. It is hydrophobic, meaning is to be used after serums, as it is an oil and is occlusive. Water-based products cannot penetrate underneath it. If you experience any irritation, stop use and consult a physician. Do not use on broken skin. Patch testing is advised Keep out of reach of children.

I love this product for use in the winter when my skin is particularly dehydrated and dry. After applied it sinks right into the skin and leaves a beautiful healthy glow. Some claim that it helps to balance out sebum production, but its main job is to help provide extra emollience and to guard against moisture loss in the skin. Our bodies make squalane in our own sebum. I don't think it can balance out sebum production since your body isn't making sebum to begin with. If you have dry skin, naturally you will be deficient in squalane. For years it was derived from shark livers and now it can be obtained from plants, which is a much more humane way to use it. This form is cruelty-free. As I mentioned, only use a few drops or you will be using this all over your face, neck, chest and hands. A little goes a long way.
