However, Sunday Riley makes it easier with Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment. This wonderful treatment deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin with gentle lactic acid for an instant glow and radiance to the skin. As the dull, dead skin cells are sloughed away, clarity and smoothness is restored. It visibly brightens the appearance of dark spots and discolorations and instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in as little as 3 minutes.
Lactic acid is a multi-tasking treatment that gently but rapidly exfoliates and naturally boosts youthful looking radiance, while visibly reducing the look of lines, wrinkles and dark spots. Directions for use: apply 1-2 pumps onto clean, dry skin after cleansing as a leave-on treatment. Can be applied on top of Luna Sleeping Night Oil and before your moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, use this as a mask instead. Apply 1-3 pumps onto clean, dry skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse well and pat dry. With this product mild tingling might occur and that is normal. Redness should not and is an indication that your skin is sensitive. Make sure to use sunscreen during the day as this can make skin sensitive to the sun.
The key ingredients in this product are purified lactic acid, licorice, lemongrass, arnica and prickly pear extract. Lactic acid is the most gentle and hydrating of the AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids). Derived from milk, it exfoliates the skin to reveal a more clarified, fresher, smoother and younger looking complexion. It helps fight the buildup of dead skin cells, dullness and excess sebum that can lead to skin congestion such as blackheads, milia and other forms of acne. Also, it helps to diminish the look of hyperpigmentation. Licorice has naturally brightening properties and helps to improve skin radiance. Lemongrass is an astringent that is refreshing to the skin and helps tone the complexion. Arnica soothes the skin, reducing discomfort and inflammation. Prickly pear extract is a rare desert cactus flower extract the instantly soothes the skin, calming inflammation. Good Genes also has squalane in it which is naturally found in the skin that has an equivalent found in olives. Squalane is a great moisturizer and helps to really plump the skin and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Aloe barbadensis leaf extract is listed too, which not only soothes the skin but helps to provide moisture and plump up the skin.
Good Genes is a slightly yellowish, thin liquid with a botanical fragrance to it. Although it is listed as fragrance-free, the botanicals in it give it some form of fragrance that is not unpleasant. It goes on nicely and absorbs quickly into the skin. I would wear this only at night, since it is an AHA. As for skin types I would recommend this for, I would say this product is a good fit for mature, dry, normal and combination skin types. Lactic acid is a more gentle exfoliation than other AHAs and doesn't cause extreme peeling of the skin. If you have oily or acneic skin, try glycolic acid, tartaric acid or mandelic acid instead. Better yet, try salicylic acid mixed with some glycolic acid.
I found this product to be utterly pleasant to use. Not only does it have a nice tingle to show that it works, but it does make the skin glow and feel as if it is a few years younger. I am not sure how much lactic acid in in the product, as it doesn't give the percentage. I do know that it is farther down on the list. There is a botanical blend of the ingredients above mixed with water listed first (as mentioned on www.sundayriley.com), next squalane, and then comes lactic acid. Ingredients are usually listed in the order of percentage. I would hope that it is around at least 5%-10%. This product is designed to really exfoliate, moisturize, soothe and plump up the skin all in one bottle. And I do think it does that. I cannot say whether or not my fine lines were gone completely but I did notice they were greatly improved. When used my skin definitely looked and felt better. And really, that is all that one can ask for. This product was received in a subscription box and was not purchased.
