Banana powder has long been used as a way for makeup artists to help color correct the complexion, give a warm highlight to the skin, reduce shine, absorb excess oil, set makeup for long-lasting wear and help reduce the appearance of fine lines. That seems to be a lot to ask of one little powder. But it has a long history in the world of makeup artistry.

essence makeup came out with their own version. With the Essence Makeup Brighten Up! Banana Powder it is specifically made to brighten up under the eyes. Use it to bake or set under eye concealer and it will last all day. Their version is vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free and loved by the press. It is also one that is most loved by their customers. This powder is a very light banana powder, finely milled pressed powder, one that is large enough that it can be used for the under eye area or, if you feel like it, you can take it and use it for the whole face. Just dip a larger brush into the pan and swoop away. Because it is so finely milled for the under eye area, it will not accentuate wrinkles or anything else on the face (such as acne lesions). It just creates a nice bright look.

Here is a swatch of the powder on my hand:

Here are three photographs with me wearing the powder under my eyes & all over my face:

The banana powder really brightens up the under eye area, giving it a lighter look, correcting the purplish look of dark circles. It is also good for getting rid of shadows on the inside of the face. As you can see, it doesn't really look like you are wearing the powder. It looks wonderful when applied with a brush or a sponge.

Essence Makeup Brighten Up! Banana Powder retails for $4.99.
