Skin. Sometimes it gets sluggish and drab looking. What can you do when your skin starts to look like this? Well, often it is the result of aging skin. As we age our skin cell turnover slows down from 28 days to eventually 70 days. This makes skin look tired, sallow, dull and lifeless with the possibility of acne breakouts. It needs some exfoliation and illumination. I have just the thing to fix it.

Ole Henriksen Transform Plus PHAT Glow Facial is a wonderful exfoliating and illuminating treatment made with a PHA that is gentle yet thorough enough for even the most sensitive of skins. This treatment contains a no-downtime exfoliating acid in Ole Henriksen's first one-step at home facial. Why are PHAs special? They are 'fat', literally. Like AHAs, PHAs deliver age fighting, skin-perfecting results, however PHAs have a larger molecular structure and thus leave skin somewhat plumper. Because of this they do not go as deep into the epidermis as AHAs, yet they still loosen the intercellular glue that binds surface skin cells together. Thus, they exfoliate to reveal newer, fresher skin underneath. This means less irritation and recovery time for your skin. PHAs are extremely gentle, causing very little inflammation, redness, stinging, etc. If you plan on going out to a party or are just staying home, this is the perfect get ready in a flash at-home facial. The massage-activated formula creates a perfect cocoon, then instantly reveals smoother, illuminated no-filter-necessary skin. And best of all it is a vegan formula!

PHAT Glow Facial contains gluconolactone. Gluconolactone (an ester of gluconic acid) can scavenge free radicals as well as exfoliate skin, it improves skin tone, texture and hydrates skin (it acts as an exfoliant and a humectant). In this way it is somewhat similar to lactic acid but works well for those with sensitive skin since it does not irritate the skin as much. It is gentle enough for daily use. Also it can be used with Vitamin C, AHAs and retinoids. Just be careful not to over exfoliate and strip your natural skin barrier. This formula also contains a number of other ingredients that act on the skin. Such as glycerin, a fabulous humectant that draws moisture into the skin, hydrating deep into the dermis. Kaolin is a clay that draws out impurities and exfoliates. Chia seed oil helps with dehydration, irritation and can even act to ban acne blemishes. Hyaluronic acid is another wonderful humectant that draws moisture into the skin, hydrating the epidermis. Niacinamide acts to control sebum production, works on pigmentation and helps with acne blemishes. German chamomile flower extract has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, calming the skin and also moisturizes it too. Lemon fruit extract fades hyperpigmentation and increases collagen synthesis in the skin. Licorice root extract also works to fade hyperpigmentation and heals the skin. Sugar cane extract acts as a natural exfoliant. Finally, sandalwood extract moisturizes and nourishes the skin. All of this is incorporated into a powerhouse formula.

To use: apply an even layer onto clean, dry skin. Massage until cream turns from pink to white. Leave on for 15 minutes. Remove with a damp cloth and continue with skincare regimen. Use 2x per week, day or night.

Here is a photo of me wearing the mask:

If you have sensitive skin I would highly recommend this product. It is extremely gentle on the skin, causing no stinging or irritation on my skin (even on my atopic dermatitis) and leaves skin looking brighter, feeling softer, more illuminated and overall looking better than prior to use. This kind of product is gentle enough that it can even be used daily, although it is not recommended for daily use. PHAT Glow Facial is a great facial for those who cannot use AHAs, those who have sensitive skin, or who just want a mask that will give their skin a beautiful glow. It exfoliates, illuminates and hydrates the skin; leaving it looking and feeling better than prior to use.
