Collagen is one of the building block proteins of the skin (elastin being the other one). As we age, collagen becomes depleted and our skin starts to gain fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen can be produced in the skin again, whereas elastin cannot. A collagen molecule is not small enough to move past the epidermal skin barrier, but it can make a difference in how the skin looks when used in a moisturizer. At least temporarily, It is therefore a good idea to incorporate one into your regimen.
One moisturizer that I particularly like is the DERMA E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer. It not only contains collagen but peptides, which are amino acid chains that work to help produce collagen in the skin. This moisturizer, formerly known as Deep Wrinkle Moisturizer, is a revolutionary double-action peptide cream to visibly soften and smooth the appearance of even the deepest wrinkles. A new and improved formula restores a more youthful appearance to skin by diminishing the look of lines and wrinkles. It contains a highly advanced formulation packed with peptides and collagen needed for healthy-looking skin that makes one of the best moisturizers for wrinkles. To use: thoroughly cleanse face and neck before using Advanced Peptides and Collagen Moisturizer. Apply a rich layer of the moisturizer to the skin, gently massaging in until the cream is absorbed. I found this cream to be very rich and effective at helping to control my signs of aging (temporarily). Again, because collagen is a large molecule, it cannot pass through the epidermis, thus it will not get to the actual dermis, and therefore cause significant change to the skin. It does however, help the skin look better when you use it, skin looks and feels better, Which is good and exactly what you want to hear. How does skin look and feel better you ask? Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased, skin tone is lightened and skin looks plump and hydrated. It does exactly what it says it is going to do. What more can you ask?
This is recommended for skin that is dry, mature, combination, and normal. Although it is ideally recommended for all skin types, the moisturizer is very rich and would likely not work out well for those with oily and acneic skin types. I would especially recommend it for those with mature and dry skin types. One of the ingredients in it is glycerin, which is the second ingredient on the list. The reason I Iike this ingredient so much is because it helps to hydrate the skin so well, It is a fabulous humectant. And it reaches all the way down to the dermis. This cream has a strong lavender scent to it though, so be wary is you are looking at something lightly scented.
