Review: Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup

I love a good foundation. Foundation is the basis for all cosmetics and lets your skin look its best so that you can look your best. Giorgio Armani Beauty recently came out with what is supposed to be the best foundation on the market. Rarely do I get this excited about a new foundation or product, that I actually jump up and down with glee when it comes from FedEx (okay, that is just exaggeration). But I am really excited because they have been working on this product for the last 8 years. I don’t have the press release information, but you can view their take on it at Giorgio Armani Beauty USA. The foundation retails for $62.00 for 1.0 fl oz./ 30 ml. It has a chemical sunscreen, Octinoxate 3% for a SPF 15, so if you are allergic this is not for you. It is available in 11 shades, you are likely to find a shade that suits your complexion.

The big deal about this foundation is that it is an oil-pigment solution, that perfects the complexion. It delivers the thinnest color film available without buildup. It has a dropper applicator, which is very different for application and I am sure many people will not like. The directions say to shake the bottle, apply THREE drops onto the fingers and work from the inner part of the face outward. With this foundation you really have to move fast when applying, because it sets fast like a waterproof foundation. I found that I need at least four drops for basic coverage. And I mean basic, it is the thinnest of coverage but very nice. The most magical of things is that this foundation starts off by being invisible upon application to actually appearing out of thin air like magic on the skin. The coverage is buildable but I have heard from others that they find as they build it seems heavy on the skin. The most important thing to remember about this foundation is that LESS is better. The more you use the likelier you are to feel that it is heavier and too much like a mask. When you immediately apply it the foundation is very matte. On skin that has nothing under it or even skin with sunscreen under it, the product felt very matte, almost dry. What I really like about this foundation is that it as the day wears on, it turns into a satiny finish.

My most favorite thing is that I find that I didn’t need any powder!!!!!!! I am very happy about that. With any other foundation I have to use sunscreen, foundation and then powder. With this, I definitely can skip the powder. If you look at the photos below you can see I skipped a lot of the extra makeup today so that I could show you the way my skin looks. I am shade 2 in this foundation and it is a perfect match for me. I really have a hard time finding foundations, because I am so pale. In Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani I am shade 1, but their system is a little odd. I now want to try the concealer. Today I used it under my eyes too and find that it covered pretty well under there for a foundation. One other thing, the coverage will work better if your skin is in good shape. But that is true for ANY foundation! I think the concealer will be a better choice to cover any little flaws like acne, scarring, etc.

So what’s the verdict on this? I personally think this is a wonderful foundation! It really made my skin look great and is the epitome of what a foundation is SUPPOSED to do. If you compare it to YSL’s Touche Eclat foundation, this one is even better. Why? Because it is lighter in coverage, makes my skin look better with less product and I don’t need powder with it as I do with the YSL Touche Eclat. On the days when my skin might be less perfect, I can turn to the Touche Eclat foundation or once I try the Maestro Concealer (I hear that is an amazing product too) I can use that. If you have the money to spend on a product like this and can get used to using just a few drops of product, this is the foundation for you.
