Review: Maybelline The Colossal Cat Eyes Volum’express Mascara

DSC06638

If you look to the drugstore for mascara, there are two companies that competitively fight for your dollars: Maybelline and L’Oreal. Maybelline is owned by L’Oreal, so really the fight is not really between them, but between which brand of the two can come out on top. Maybelline is the number one cosmetics company in America between the two, and with good reason. They usually come out with products every month and have numerous winners. Their big winners are mascaras.

Today I am going to review the new entry to Maybelline’s Volum’express line: The Colossal Cat Eyes. This mascara promises to give you the cat eye look such as a full and spiked at the corners. It does this with instant volume, no clumps, and with collagen. The mascara has a “claw brush”. I will say that it did come out with a gel liner and their Color Tattoo shadow in the end cap that I found it with, so I am sure that it is helpful in aiding to give the cat eye look. However, the package promises this without these products.

As you can see below I did get pretty good results, but not the extreme “cat eye” that Maybelline promises. I think I would have to use liquid eyeliner for that. I think the problem is that my eyes are bedroom eyes and naturally turn down. it is possible that they would look like the cat eye look if they didn’t do that. I used three coats and I do like the mascara in general, it seems to go on well. The brush is really just a curved brush. The instructions say to get the cat eye look you take the brush and stretch it out at the corners. I really think it is easy to do that with any curved brush. There weren’t any clumps as promised, which is good. I think that this mascara is giving a bit of false advertising, it is a nice volumizing mascara and I like that but really you are not going to get the look promised without adding eyeliner. That means buying extra products. I purchased this from Walgreens for $8.49.
