I have been using a skin toner for acne that is different than any other I have ever tried. It is from the United Kingdom, where different ingredients are allowed than in the United States. Skinetica Anti-Blemish Super Toner definitely works and I am very happy with it. I do get acne on my chin from time to time, even though I am 43 years old. I get seasonal acne and hormonal acne. It is only on my chin, which shows me that it is hormonal acne. I have been treating acne for 20 years and have a lot of experience with treatments that work and do not work.
This toner uses quaternary ammonium chloride as its main acne fighting ingredient. It also has ethyl alcohol in it too, which is just basically a bacterial killer. The quaternary ammonium chloride is also known in the United States as “quats”. I learned about it in esthetics school. The ingredient is used in many disinfectant compounds to clean instruments used for nail and hair salons. Using this ingredient in skincare is an interesting development. It is not one that is permitted in the US at the moment. However, it can be used in the United Kingdom, which means that it is okay as the EU (European Union) has strict guidelines with what can be used on the skin and in cosmetics.
I used this for several weeks and found that I did not have any blemishes erupt during this time. Which made me very happy. This toner is used after cleansing and just wiped on prior to any skincare serums, moisturizers, etc. In the morning it can be used after cleansing and as a makeup base. I think that this is a great anti-acne treatment because it does help to kill acne bacteria so well. Quaternary ammonium chloride is a disinfectant and is an excellent ingredient to kill acne bacteria. I am hoping that this becomes one that can be used as such in the United States soon. I think that many people would benefit well from this treatment.
Skinetica will also help to decrease blackheads and whiteheads, as it helps to decrease sebum production that causes these types of blemishes. It has also been shown from customer testimonials to help rosacea. The company is doing further study to determine if this does indeed work on rosacea blemishes. This toner does not contain any harsh chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be prematurely aging to the skin as it generates free radicals and can damage cellular DNA. It also bleaches fabric and hair.
