Contouring is everywhere this spring. Almost every company has a contouring palette out. And I mean just about every company. I personally love the palette from Kat Von D, as it has six shades in it and there is a matching brush that goes with it. These are not the same heavy handed, dark shaded palettes from the 70’s and 80’s though. This is contouring for a modern era.
The Kat Von D palette, Shade + Light Contour Palette contains 3 highlighting and 3 contouring shades. The shades in this palette embrace the true hues of shadow and light with cooler taupe-based undertones instead of the bronze tones found in most contouring palettes. The advanced pigment-packed formula blends effortlessly into skin for buildable, fade proof coverage that lasts all day and night with one-swipe, rich color intensity. Follow the how-to insert and see Kat’s step-by-step illustrations that offer artistic contour solutions to get a flawless face.
The highlighting shades are: Lucid, a pinkish nude; Lyric, a yellow beige and Levitation, a soft peach. The 3 contouring shades are: Sombre, a true taupe; Shadowplay, a soft brown and Subconscious, a deep brown. The shades match each other but can also be mixed and matched for your mood. The contouring shades are very pigmented, a little bit goes a long way. And the highlighting shades are also fairly well pigmented. They go on well but don’t make your face feel ghostly pale. I really like this palette. It is a great palette for those that want to contour and highlight but don’t want to get their faces too dark. I think it’s good for very fair, porcelain to medium/dark skin tones.
Contouring is a great way to give your face shape, it takes away the shadows and gives yourself new dimensions. Make some art with your makeup. Use the shades to give yourself chiseled cheekbones, a more narrow forehead and a slender nose. Carve out some contoured areas of the face and highlight the recessed areas so that they look lighter and can stand out more. Give your face more dimension.
The Shade + Light Contour Brush is the perfect accompaniment to the Shade + Light Contour Palette. This brush comes housed in a sleek protective, travel friendly case. It is a dual ended synthetic bristled brush with one end angled for contouring and the other end tapered for highlighting. Glide the angled end along the cheekbones and temples to sculpt them. It can also be used on the sides of the nose and under the jawline. Use the tapered end on the bridge of the nose, under the eyes and the front of the forehead to highlight. The brush works in conjunction with the Shade + Light Contour Palette to give the best contoured/highlighted look.
