The other day I did a review on a product from Kensington Apothecary, the Sake Skin Detox Tonic (http://bit.ly/1OPSYUM). This product is a great product for skin that is sallow, sagging and just plain in need of some TLC. It is a core product of Kensington Apothecary’s new 14 product debut line. I was really happy with the tonic and I was lucky enough to get to try another one of their core products, the Rose Water Exfoliating Tonic

Kensington Apothecary is a 100% all natural skincare brand. It is the newest creation of Claudia Carey Batz, the brand designer and formulator of the highly successful national body care brand Valentina’s Home-Brewed. She worked for 3 years to formulate her 14 product debut line of natural facial skin care. The goal in creating Kensington Apothecary was to fill the desperate need for a high-end department store-level beauty line which could compete against the hottest luxury skincare products with state of the art performance, all while exceeding the daunting 100% natural ingredient standards of the most exacting natural skincare customer. She ultimately met this goal and met it well. The line is very successful and the products perform very well.

She created many of the natural product bases while researching traditional British and European skincare recipes from the Renaissance through the Victorian eras. Some of them had animal ingredients in them, such as shark liver oil, so she updated them with plant-based naturals to conform to the values and priorities she set for her brand. The brand is based in Portland, Oregon and is formulated and manufactured with 100% natural ingredients using organic and NON-GMO raw materials and the most advanced natural actives available (primarily sourced from Switzerland and France).

Kensington Apothecary’s Rose Water Exfoliating Tonic is meant for skin that is dull from extraneous dead skin cells that have built up on the epidermis. Remove the tired, outer layer of skin cells without scrubbing. It contains 5 fruit acids that reveal fresh, smooth skin underneath all of the old, dead skin cells. This tonic is for teens, grandmothers and anyone in between. It contains Sugar Cane, Bilberry and Citrus Extracts that gently dissolve the outer layer of dead skin, revealing fresh, younger skin underneath. Fig Fruit and Honeysuckle Extracts keep new skin cells looking smooth and hydrated. It is also calming and healing with Organic Rose Hydrosol combined with the pH balanced powerhouse of Witch Hazel and the moisture-locking properties of Aloe Vera. This tonic is equally effective for fine lines and discoloration as it is for blemish-prone skin. It should be used daily. Just sweep the Rose Water Exfoliating Tonic across the face with an organic cotton pad/cotton ball or a reusable flannel cloth. Keep away from the eye area. Use morning and night for best results. It you find that it is too much when used twice a day, cut back to once per day. Follow with the skin serum or facial oil of your choice. Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or more during the day.

I normally don’t use a toner, but this is not your regular toner. It performs like an exfoliant instead of a regular toner. It is equivalent to using a very mild peel on the face every day. I like it because it is gentle on the skin yet helps to get rid of the old, dead skin that builds up on our face daily. Use in place of a scrub or use in addition to a scrub depending on how sensitive your skin is. If you have skin that is not sensitive and you get a lot of dead skin build up, then by all means use this in addition to a scrub. Those with dry skin should use this daily and a scrub once a week. Those with oily skins should use this daily and a scrub up to 2x a week. And use it 2x a day if tolerated. Like I said, it is gentle on the skin. That is the nice thing about Kensington Apothecary products, they work but they do not leave skin feeling irritated or inflamed.

Kensington Apothecary Rose Water Exfoliating Tonic retails for $28.00 (4 fl.oz./118 mL) and can be purchased online at www.kensingtonapothecary.com, at natural grocers and fine cosmetic retailers nationwide.
