tarte cosmetics came out with their tartelette palette last year and it was a huge hit. The palette contained 12 matte eye shadows that were amazonian clay based and they all glided on like a dream. It quickly became a huge hit with their fans and I personally found it to be a favorite among my matte eye shadows. I was very happy to see they were coming out with a new palette this holiday season, called tartelette in bloom. This palette has lighter, warmer shades with 9 mattes and 3 luster shades. All of the shades are brand new, never before seen. I received the palette for Christmas and I was so excited to try it out. Generally what makes a good palette is a blend of light shades, medium shades and dark shades so that you can create a good number of eye looks with these shades. Does the tartelette in bloom achieve this? Let’s see…

The palette consists of 12 eye shadows. The shadows are amazonian clay based, just like the original tartelette palette. Amazonian clay is nature’s most perfect ingredient for better, longer truer wear. The eye shadows in this palette are made from mineral pigments that soothe and soften the skin. I found that the shadows are super pigmented payoff with little to no fallout. And they are extremely easy to blend too! As mentioned earlier, there are 9 matte shades and 3 luster/shimmer shades. I wish that there had been more shimmer shades in this palette, as I prefer shimmery shades and I think a good mix of shimmers and mattes makes a great palette. Plus, tarte makes great shimmers. The eye shadows are very creamy, go on smoothly and all lean to the warm end of the color spectrum. So if you can wear warm or neutral shades these shadows will look good on you. The shades included in this palette are: charmer (off white), jetsetter (warm taupe), rocker (shimmering taupe), smokeshow (black brown), flower child (peachy nude), smarty pants (tan), firecracker (shimmery bronze copper), activist (dark brown), funny girl (shimmmery champagne), sweetheart (peach), rebel (chestnut brown) and leader (aubergine).

I think there are a good equal number of light, medium and dark shades in this palette. This makes it easy to allow for a good “eye” look, so that you have shadows to create depth and bring forward features with light and dark. For example, I have hooded eyes and need a light shade on the lid and a medium shade and a deeper shade in the crease to create the illusion of a deep set eye.

(above: swatches of the tartelette in bloom palette left to right charmer, jetsetter, rocker, smokeshow, flower child, smarty pants, firecracker, activist, funny girl, sweetheart, rebel and leader)

Look 1: I took smarty pants and used it in the crease, then took activist and used it below that to deepen the crease, then used activist on the outer edge of my upper lid and to line the lower lid. funny girl was used on the upper lid and charmer under the brow.

Look 2: For this look I took rocker and used in the crease then took smokeshow and used in below that to create a deeper look. Then I took smokeshow and used it on the outer edge of the upper lid and to line the lower lid  firecracker was used on the upper lid and flower child was used under the brow.

I really like this palette and can see myself using it a lot. As I mentioned, the shadows are fairly creamy, easy to blend, have little to no fallout and are very pigmented. To me that qualifies as a good purchase. I definitely recommend this palette and think that you will find it to be worth the money. It does not qualify for any pro discounts though, which is a bummer.

The tartelette in bloom amazonian clay palette retails for $45.00 and is currently available online at www.tartecosmetics.com; www.ulta.com and in Ulta stores.
