I love reviewing fragrances. Reviewing a fragrance gives me the opportunity to be very creative, to tell you how I feel about a the make up of a scent, its mood, how it makes me feel and what it does for me. I want you to understand how  scent is. Fragrance is very personal for the wearer. It is something that often evokes a memory and a flashback to something we love and remember fondly.

Today I will be discussing the new fragrance from Britney Spears. Her fragrance portfolio is very impressive. Over the past two decades she has released over two dozen fragrances that have been very successful. Her new one, called Prerogative, is an Eau de Parfum billed as a unisex fragrance. This is the first one under her new licensing agreement with Revlon. It is an olfactory expression of individuality and authenticity, designed for people who don't hesitate what they want to be. This marks the first time she moves away from the feminine fragrances that she has launched in the past. "Prerogative is about empowerment and confidence-we all deserve to feel free and fierce."-Britney Spears. Britney Spears fragrance portfolio evolves with each new scent that she releases. Prerogative is about pushing boundaries. It showcases confidence and versatility.

The fragrance is unusual and exotic. The opening notes are pink pepper, goji berries and apricot. The heart notes are red calla lily, latex petals and espresso foam which are spiced up with soft saffron cream. The base notes are subtle, woody and warm, made up of sandalwood and amberwood.

Prerogative comes in a roundish, dark purple matte glass bottle with the word 'Prerogative' embossed on one side, which is flat on each side and is offset slightly so that it sits on its bottom side a little bit. It has a glossy purple cap with a bright pink band that says Britney Spears in gold letters.

To be honest, I find this fragrance quite beautiful and not at all unisex. When I think of a unisex scent, I think of something fresher, lighter and something with more citrus in it. I find this to be very feminine in nature and it captures something exquisite. For me it evokes the memory of another fragrance, one that I had in my teens. I cannot remember the name of it but I wore the heck out of it. I love the scent of Prerogative. It starts out fruity and rich, very exotic. Then when it starts to dry down, you get the heart of the fragrance, which is the the crux of this scent. I have never seen a fragrance with these notes before and I do not know how to describe them better than to say that they are spicy, rich, warm and soft. Then when it dries down, you get the base notes which are definitely woody and very earthy. The sandalwood and amberwood are more unisex in nature, but with the other notes in this scent, I do not think that it makes this fragrance more unisex. In fact, it's just the opposite. To me, it makes it more feminine. I think Britney Spears missed the mark on this one. She made a very beautiful scent. I just do not agree that it is unisex. My opinion, and everyone has one they say, is that this is a quite feminine fragrance. I quite like it too.

Britney Spears Prerogative comes in a body mist for $10, a 1 fl.oz./30mL ($32), 1.7 fl.oz./50mL ($42) and 3.3 fl.oz./100mL ($52). It is available at Kohl's and Walmart online and in stores.
