Skincare, like other fields, has trends. The current trend is probiotics. And with good reason. Our skin has a microbiome, which is a fancy way of saying that we have good bacteria on our skin that live in harmony with each other. These bacteria work at keeping the bad bacteria at bay, helping our body to keep homeostasis intact. Homeostasis is the body's way of regulating its systems, making the body itself run smoothly. When it is interrupted, bad things like infections and viruses can happen. I have been trying to use as many probiotic products as possible as well as eating as much yogurt, preferably Greek yogurt, as I can. Greek yogurt is very high in probiotics and has been strained so well that it is extra thick. It is also very good with honey, which also has a high ratio of good bacteria in it. This must be why Greeks live such a long time and why they have very little heart disease. That and the olive oil they jug down with everything!
Actually, our entire body has good bacteria that flourish within it. It is our job to keep that bacteria intact so that it helps keep our body running smoothly. When we take antibiotics, they kill off those good bacteria and we need to re-establish the good bacteria in our bodies again with that good bacteria. One way to do that is by eating lots of yogurt or cottage cheese. Another way is to take probiotic pills.
I have been using a special cleanser lately that I absolutely love, dr. brandt Clean Biotic pH-balanced yogurt cleanser with chlorophyll. This cleanser is high in probiotics and also contains chlorophyll to help keep the microbiome in check, without disturbing it and removing it. The cleanser is a gel-cream for, and is a multi-tasking dynamo that removes makeup, dirt, oil, pollution and debris without stripping the natural moisture barrier too. Skin retains its moisture and redness is soothed, irritation due to dryness is relieved. It also helps to minimize fine lines and wrinkles,
Because it is a gel-cream and it is so light, I would recommend this cleanser for all skin types, even acneic skin. Re-establishing the microbiome and getting rid of bad bacteria is exactly what you want to do with skin that is acneic and oily. Dry and normal skins would also benefit from a cleanser like this to help rehydrate the the skin and soothe it. This cleanser has been ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested. It is hypoallergenic and is safe for contact lens wearers. So yes, it does remove eye makeup too. It is free of formadehydes, parabens, phthalates, fragrances, mineral oil and sulfates.
Personally, I love this cleanser because it removes everything on my face so easily. That and it leaves my skin feeling soft, hydrated and moisturized. My natural moisture barrier is left intact too, as noticed by the fact that my skin doesn't feel stripped at all. And I love the fact that it has probiotics in it and that they help to keep my microbiome intact.
This cleanser should be used twice daily, am and pm. Apply cleanser to damp face and massage gently to rid skin of excess sebum, makeup, dirt and pollution. Then rinse with warm water. Dry face with a towel. Continue with your skincare regimen.
Until Next Time~
