Primer is the best way to lay down a base for your foundation. What exactly does primer do? A number of things, many of them you would not think make a huge difference. But there is a difference when primer isn't used. Mainly foundation won't last as long, it will cake up and it might end up streaking. Primer helps foundation to go on smoothly, it lasts longer, pores disappear and it just looks a whole lot better on the skin.

essence makeup makes a wonderful tinted primer called my skin perfector tinted primer. This lightweight mousse primer has an instant blur effect on the skin. my skin perfector provides a long-lasting base for flawless foundation and creates smooth, natural coverage when used as a combination with makeup, it creates a flawless complexion that lasts all day long. The primer makes pores optically disappear while leaving skin smooth and has a beautiful matte finish. It can be worn alone for natural coverage or with foundation for smoother makeup application and enhanced coverage. This product is cruelty-free and vegan.

To use, pick a shade that most closely matches your foundation. Apply all over your face with hands before you put on your foundation or just wear it alone over sunscreen. Use it to lock in and smooth your foundation base, for flawless skin that will last all day long. This product comes in six shades that should look good across all skin tones. They are fair neutral, light beige, nude beige, medium beige, tan and deep.

I tried out fair neutral and light beige. Fair neutral is definitely my shade. I could even wear it alone without makeup, the coverage is so good. It has light coverage that really does blur imperfections and optically blurs pores. Skin looks beautiful, matte with just a light dusting of powder over it to set it, it looks like you are wearing foundation. Light beige was a little too dark for me, it makes a nice light primer shade for light skin tones but I am very fair. Fair neutral is for the fairest skin tones like myself.

Here are swatches of the two shades I tried. You can see that the fair neutral shade is the lightest and best shade for my fair skin tone but light beige is too dark and yellow. Even the fair neutral looks a little dark for my skin but once it is spread out it looks fine. I just wanted to show the colors.

Next you can see my skin wearing nothing but the my skin perfector tinted primer in fair neutral:

As you can see, my skin looks matte, it covers well and I don't have any issues with it at all. I like that it has light coverage and blurs pores optically so that they don't look so obvious under foundation. My skin is fairly neutral (I can usually wear cool and warm shades easily) and it is pretty fair, so the fair neutral shade looked perfect on my skin.

essence my skin perfector tinted primer retails for $5.99. It is available online at www.essencemakeup.com and ULTA Beauty.
