I am always on the hunt for a great brown product. My brows have been cruelly taken away from me, likely due to the fact that I tweezed them into oblivion when I was a teenager. However, over the past few years I have noticed a significant thinning of my brows too. This might be due to thyroid issues that I need to get checked out, but either way it is extremely annoying.

So when Real Her offered to send me their new Eye Am Inspiring Definer Brow Pencil, I was jumping at the chance to try it out. Brows are very in style right now, especially well defined laminated brows. This brow pencil is a long-lasting, waterproof, micro-tip that allows you to create individual-like hairs for a subtle or bold brow look. The creamy wax-based formulation glides on beautifully and naturally on the skin.

The brow pencil comes in three shades: Light, Medium and Dark. I have red hair and surprisingly the Dark shade was actually best for me.

Below are swatches of the shades:

Left to right: Light, Medium and Dark

The Light shade is good for those with Blonde hair. The Medium shade for those with brown and light red hair. My hair is a medium red and I prefer a nice defined brow. The Dark shade would probably work for most people except those with extremely dark brows, to be honest. As you can see it isn't black, it is more of a medium to dark brown. Whereas the Medium shade is light to medium brown. These shades are all neutral in tone, good for any skin tone, not cool or warm. Real Her has done a fantastic job of putting out three shades that work with just about any skin tone. I would posit to say that if you have a really dark skin tone and hair these might not work for you though, as you would need an ebony or black shade to match your hair.

Application Tips:

Brows should start at along the base of the natural arch. Create a stopping point by dotting where you want them to end before fully drawing them in. They should not go beyond farther than the end of your eye. If you have eyes that tilt downward like mine, end them just about a cm or so past the arch. This way you don't drag the eye down.

For a subtle brow start by creating hair-like strokes starting  towards the the beginning of your brow and moving in light, upwards motions, following the natural arch. Diffuse any harsh lines by using the spoolie at the end of the pencil.

For a bolder brow, apply with more pressure when drawing in the hairs or use a darker shade. Next fill in with soft, even strokes to create more intensity. Go back with the spoolie to diffuse the brows slightly, to keep your bolder brow but soften any harsh lines.

These brow pencils are nice. Although I was only able to use the darker one (it is unusual that the darker color fit me), I really like the fact that it is offered in a micro size with a spoolie on the other end. When I use it I don't usually do it so dark too, so one could go and darken the brow. These pencils are good for those who prefer a more natural brow look, which happens to be in style right now. I already put forth my thoughts on which colors look best with which hair shade. Real Her did a fine job of staying neutral on that front.

  2. Hi... your article is nice about brow pencil and its shades. I have tried a brow lamination and it also creates the same effect. Thank you for sharing it.
