Review: The Chemistry Brand Extreme Hydration Concentrate

(product photo courtesy of chemistrybrand.deciem.com)

3.3 fl.oz/100mL $20.00

This is the last in my series about Deciem's The Chemistry Brand Hand Cream products. I have reviewed the other two products that they make and wanted to finish off with the Extreme Hydration Concentrate. My hands are ALWAYS extremely dry. As I have mentioned previously, the hair follicles in the hands do not secrete sebum the way that other parts of the body do, which makes them particularly susceptible to dryness and cracking. It is therefore extremely important to keep them hydrated. Otherwise the natural moisture barrier of the skin weakens causing issues of the skin such as dryness and cracking.

This special ultra-concentrated hydration complex contains at least five hydration active technologies from marine and plant sources that provide long-lasting hydration to the skin of the hands, offering dramatic visible textural improvements. These comprise 24% of the formula. With this hand cream you can expect results IMMEDIATELY, in 24 hours and within 10 days of continued use.

To use, apply evenly to clean hands morning and evening for 10 days. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. It is best to patch test prior to use.

I am all about ingredients. And this hand cream is chock full of great ingredients. It contains the following to help hydrate the hands and keep them from being dry and cracked: hydrolyzed yeast extract, panthenol, glycerin, alanine, proline, serine, pseudoalteromonas ferment extract, tremella fucimormis sporocarp extract, and  tocopherol. Hydrolyzed yeast extract is a great skin conditioning agent. Panthenol is a well known hydrating and soothing agent that helps to hydrate dry skin. Glycerin is a humectant that hydrates to the dermis of the skin and actually works better than Hyaluronic Acid. Alanine works to balance moisture levels in the skin, providing improved hydration. Next we have proline, an amino acid that is primarily used in anti-aging skincare products to improve the skin's elasticity, increase collagen production, promote skin repair, and helps to regenerate the skin. Serine is an amino acid that consists of natural moisturizing factors, keratin, and the hydroxyl group of serine can actively interact with water molecules. It helps to moisturize the skin extremely well. Pseudoaltermonas ferment extract is derived from marine bacteria. It helps to regulate and protect the skin from dryness and redness due to the cold weather and promotes skin regeneration as well as a smoother skin surface. This ingredient does this by stimulating protein synthesis in the skin, more specifically, proteins type I and IV collagen and elastin, which are important for younger looking, wrinkle-free skin (these results came from in vivo tests though, and might not apply to living human skin). Tremella fucimormis sporocarp extract, also known as snow mushroom cap, is a well known moisturizer and has been shown to moisturize the skin by moisture to the surface of the skin. Finally, tocopherol, known as Vitamin E, helps to moisturize the skin and leave it feeling softer. It is also an antioxidant that will attack free radicals.

This hand cream first feels very heavy when it goes on but sinks into the skin quickly. It then feels like a silicone glove due to the dimethicone that is included in the ingredients. There is nothing wrong with a silicone derivative, it just adds slip. Immediately skin feels hydrated, smooth and softer. Once the hand cream sinks in the skin feels like it has an invisible glove on and like it doesn't even have any cream on really. The cream feels nice and absorbs well without feeling greasy at all. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a nice light hand cream that hydrates the skin well. After 10 days of use, I noticed the skin on my hands had improved to the point act it didn't feel as dry or cracked as it usually does.
