I suffer from hyperpigmentation due to several years of UVA radiation sun exposure. I just wrote in yesterday's blog post about how UVA radiation causes photo damage and hyperpigmentation. This was literally caused by everyday sun exposure due to a lack of sunscreen on my very fair skin. I also have sun damage due to years of sun burn and to UVB sun exposure. My fair skin cannot stand to be in the sun for more than a few minutes before I experience erythema (redness). So now I try to treat the hyperpigmentation with ingredients that work to lighten it up as well as possible.
One product that I tried recently is NEOSTRATA's Illuminating Serum. It contains NeoGlucosamine, a gentle exfoliant that helps to lighten dark patches. Other ingredients it contains are 4% Niacinamide, Resorcinal and Licorice Root. Niaciamide works very well to lighten up hyperpigmentation and even out skin tone and redness. So does Resorcinal and Licorice Root. Often Niacinamide is included in 2% level. This serum contains twice that amount. This serum also contains botanical ingredients like Orange Fruit Extract, Jasmine Extract, Plumeria Extract and Apple Extract.
Using fingertips, apply serum twice daily to cleansed skin. Can be smoothed all over the face and neck. Limit sun exposure during and after use to prevent darkening from reoccurring.
Below is a video of showing how to apply the Illuminating Serum:
Here are photos of my skin before and after use of the serum:
