Manna Kadar Cosmetics means Beauty Simplified!

mannakadar

There is a new line of cosmetics, founded by beauty maven Manna Kadar, that will be making its way across the country soon. Manna Kadar designed her line to be “Beauty Simplified”. Her products are multi-functional and long lasting. In today’s whirlwind society, people are looking for a way to keep their beauty routine’s more simple. There are six key products in the line that you can use and in seven minutes or less, with your beautiful look lasting all day long!

The six key products are:

    • Camera ready: a makeup base that minimizes the look of fine lines and pores, smoothing the skin. It creates a matte, silky smooth finish to make your makeup last all day long. This product is silicone based, which is what makes it work so well. $42.00
    • Prime Time: a double duty eyeshadow and lip base, this products prevents makeup from creasing, smudging and keeps eyeshadows vibrant. One of the most interesting uses is that it can be used as a concealer or as an under brow highlighter! Used on lips it keeps lipstick from feathering and lipgloss from fading. $25.00
    • Transfix: this product is one of the best in the line, it transforms eyeshadow into smudge proof liquid liner! $19.00
    • HD Powder: a colorless finishing powder used to create a matte, flawless look. It gives a velvet feel to the face. $34.00
    • Sheer Glow: a luminous, sheer liquid that can be used a number of ways. Mix with foundation to create a healthy glow. It can be used on top of the cheek bones to add highlights. Use as concealer to add a lustrous glow under the eye. Under the brow it also adds light. It can also be used on the body to add a sheer, an incandescent glow. $29.00
    • Lash Primer: nourishes and enhances lashes, it creates a base coat to amplify any mascara’s effect. It can also be worn at night to condition the lashes. $20.00

These are the six key products to build upon. Her line also contains eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes. I was lucky enough to get to try the Camera Ready, Sheer Glow and Saucy Hi Gloss Lipstick.

DSC07734

Camera Ready primer is similar to other primers I have tried. It went on very well and easily blended into my skin. Then when I went to apply my foundation that went on also very easily, which I attribute to the silicones in the primer. In my opinion, a good primer needs something to make the primer have a slickness so that it allows the foundation to apply well (which is the job of the primer in the first place). I did notice it made the foundation matte, however today it is hot and humid so that didn’t last very long. I like this primer, it does do what it’s supposed to do!

DSC07731DSC07733

Sheer Glow is so nice! I adore shimmer lotions. Actually, I love anything that shimmers and shines. I decided to use this as a concealer and high above my cheeks, on top of my blush today. When I used this as a concealer I was pleasantly surprised at how much it actually did work to cover my dark circles. Mind you, I don’t have very dark ones to begin with. If someone with really dark circles used this, the results might not be the same. After I applied my blush and powder, I used the Sheer Glow as a highlighter for my cheeks. Today I applied my blush a little lower on the cheekbones and then used this higher up. Sheer Glow is an iridescent pink, which I think works better for most people than say an iridescent gold color. I wore a bright pink blush and the Sheer Glow worked well with it and brought out my cheeks very nicely.

DSC07769

Finally, I was also able to try one of the Manna Kadar lipsticks. I tried a bright pink Hi Gloss finish named Saucy. With my red hair and pale skin this color is definitely the kind that makes a statement! Immediately I notice that the lipstick has a lot of slip, meaning that it goes on smoothly. Also, there is definitely a ton of pigment. This baby is not lacking in that department. The lipstick lasts a long time on the lips too, which is what everyone wants from a lipstick. The wear is nice, the pigment is nice, everything is nice about this, so I am pretty happy about this lipstick. The lipsticks retail for $21.00

DSC07760DSC07767DSC07758DSC07755DSC07745

As you can see from the photos above, the Sheer Glow does a great job of being a concealer. I have used highlighters as concealers before and if you have light dark circles you can do this. It also works well as a cheek highlighter, even over powders. Normally it is said not to mix liquid over powder, but this works well. Camera Ready is holding its own as a mattifying primer even though it is unusually hot and humid on this autumn day. And Saucy lipstick? I am surprised how nicely I can wear such a bright pink! The key is to wear just eyeliner and mascara on the eyes, so that they don’t counterbalance with the brightness of the lipstick.

I think people are going to like Manna Kadar Cosmetics. Her philosophy of keep beauty simple will resonate with women. We want to keep things simple! Manna Kadar products are available on www.mannakadarcosmetics.com. Currently she is having a promotion, all of her signature products (the six that I spoke of) are available for $99.00, with free shipping!

Review: Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit

DSC07705

As women, we often find ourselves with hair in the wrong places. That hair just increases as we get older. So,we have to find ways to remove it. There is waxing in a salon, which is a great way. However, that is effective if not expensive. There is also sugaring, which is also effective, but also expensive. Finally there is electrolysis and laser hair removal, but those ways are extremely expensive.

DSC07706

That leaves hair removal at home. For this I have found the Sally Hansen Hair Removal Wax Strip Kit ($6.79, Rite Aid), which includes 34 wax strips, Azulene Finishing Oil and Instructions. The 34 wax strips vary in size, all strips are double sided, making 2 wax strips on each: 2 large, 6 medium and 9 small. The large strips are for the bikini area, the medium are for the upper lip or chin and the small are for the brow. The Azulene finishing oil included is for the redness and irritation associated with after waxing. Azulene comes from Chamomile and is an anti-inflammatory. The instructions are very specific. They tell the user that she/he must take the strips and warm them in the palm of their hands to warm the wax. This is done with friction. Then they are applied wax side down. Press down on the wax strip, firmly. Stretch skin tautly. This is very important, the user then takes the strip and very quickly removes from the face. Like a band-aid, but quicker! Most of the hair should be gone. There are instructions for each part to be worked on. Make sure the area is clean and dry. The hair should 1/4” long (21 days growth) before waxing. Do not use on skin that has been treated by Retin-A, Glycolic acid, etc.

I found that I could go back with the strips and get the hair that did not come off the first time. Usually with waxing, one cannot go back and use the strip a second time. However, these strips are not as strong as regular waxing strips that are used in salons. Most of the hair comes off the first time. I will say that these strips are NOT perfect. I did have to go back and do it a second time for just one little area. It does make a difference if you don’t pull the strip quickly enough. The strip has to be pulled really fast and hard. Also, I really would not recommend usage if you are on Retin-A or any drug that specifically exfoliates skin. In this case you could pull your skin off. I have seen it happen! What I really like is the Azulene finishing oil. The skin is raw after waxing and needs something that helps to “cool” it down and kill the redness and inflammation, and this does a very good job. Using this, I found that my skin went back to normal almost instantly. I like that I don’t have to go to a salon for my upper lip. I am certified in waxing and sugaring and feel that if you cannot make it to the salon, these strips are an acceptable substitute. The Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit gets a thumbs up from me!

Review: Manna Kadar Bronze Beauty Self-Tanning Lotion

image002(1)

I am a very pale person. We are talking ghostly pale. I cannot go into the sun at all, for fear of sun burn. Which is a good thing, because as an esthetician I cannot recommend getting a suntan. The sun damages the skin, causing cancer. I also cannot recommend going to tanning booths, indoor tanning can also cause skin cancer.

The only safe way to tan is by using self-tanning lotion. A new line of cosmetics, by beauty veteran Manna Kadar, includes a great self-tanning lotion for helping to take your skin from soft pale like mine to a hot bronze that will make you feel as if you had been at the beach all year long.

DSC07654DSC07655

Bronze Beauty (4 oz., $24.00) is made with aloe, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and that help hydrate and moisturize the skin. It has an almond oil scent that smells fresh and lively. Apply evenly over face and body. The color is instant and intensifies over 3 hours. Wash hands immediately so that you avoid discoloring hands. Maintain the color by using Bronze Beauty 1-3 times a week.

DSC07647DSC07648DSC07651DSC07658DSC07659

The above photos show my swatches of Bronze Beauty. I thought since I am so pale, it would be a great trial to just swatch it on my inner forearm to see the coloring and how it turned out. The 1st photo on the top row, left, shows my inner forearm without any product applied. As you can see I am very pale. The 2nd photo, middle, top row shows product applied and rubbed in. After 3 hours I took a picture and you can see in the 3rd photo, right, top row that there is significant change in my skin coloring. The color looks pretty good.

Bottom row, 1st photo, I did a 2nd application of the self-tanner. I like the color like this actually. After 3 hours it developed into a little bit darker color. It is pretty brown. I prefer the 1st “coat”.  This would be too dark for me.

Overall, Bronze Beauty is a pretty good self-tanning lotion. After 2 coats of the product on my skin, I can say that it did what it is supposed to do. I don’t really like the almond oil scent, but that is just my preference. I think that if you want a self-tanner that will go pretty dark, this is one that will fit the bill for you.

Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Diamonds

DSC07575DSC07576

The past few days I have been doing a little drugstore stalking, just to see what has been around. I will always love drugstore makeup, because when I was little I got my first taste of the makeup bug on drugstore products. L’Oreal, Maybelline and Revlon hold nostalgic places in my heart.

DSC07632

I have always loved L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara. Every so often they tweak it, and it generally works better than the original. For the holidays they decided to release the Million Lashes mascara with a Diamond Sparkle formula. Supposedly it shimmers. And they also claim to have no clumps with a clean sweep wiping system. The color I tried is Black Diamond. There are a few colors. (I could not get a picture of the shimmer. I could see it in the sunlight, but it would not photograph).

DSC07586DSC07587DSC07589DSC07596DSC07600DSC07601DSC07604DSC07609

Photos: In the first three you can see I don’t have on any mascara, just foundation, brow makeup and lipliner. The next photo on the left in the second row shows mascara on the left eye and none on the right. The middle photo of the second row shows mascara on both eyes, eyes closed. The photo on the right of the second row shows eyes open and mascara on both eyes. The photo on the left of the third row shows eyes open with mascara on both and eyeliner, blush and lipgloss on lips. Third row, middle photo is a close up and shows the same makeup (mascara, eyeliner, blush and lipgloss).

Having tried the Million Lashes formula before, I was anxious to try see the shimmery mascara. Cover Girl had released one a few years ago and theirs actually came close to looking like a slightly shimmery mascara. I tried on the mascara and was immediately happy with how it lengthened my lashes. I have tiny, thin blonde lashes (as you can see from the photos above) that are almost invisible. This mascara made them look very long and gave them great volume. I used three coats and did not wait for the mascara to dry between coats. However, I did not see any shimmer on my lashes. None, nada.

Voluminous Million Lashes Diamonds is wonderful for giving lashes volume and even length but there is no shimmer to be found. So disappointed that I didn’t get any shimmer but I am happy that I did get a great volumizing mascara, so my money is not completely wasted. This product is available at Walgreens for $8.79.

Do A Smoky Eye Look With L’Oreal

DSC07502DSC07538

Recently L’Oreal came out with four different looks for fall or the holiday season (I am not sure which), all with complementary cosmetics. I almost went broke buying them, thank goodness for Buy One, Get One Half Off! There are four different looks based on a color theme. Today I am doing my look mixing from each color theme. I decided to do a nice smoky eye look with one of the eye shadow quads, The Queen’s Gaze.

DSC07539DSC07542

This quad is four different grays: light shimmery grayish silvery-white, shimmery medium silver, dark shimmery gray and shimmery eggplant charcoal. I found that these shadows were actually pretty pigmented, and I was pleasantly surprised. L’Oreal isn’t known for having well pigmented eyeshadows. If you look at the swatches you can see that each swatched very well, even the lightest color. Also, there is very little fallout, which is very nice!

DSC07552DSC07553

The blush color is The Mystic’s Blush, a light peach color. It didn’t go on very well. As you can see from the swatch, there is very little color pigmentation. That is a big disappointment. I am glad I only bought one blush.

DSC07546DSC07548

For the lips, I chose to wear one of the LeGloss colors, The Mystic’s Shine. I adore this color. It is a very shimmery lilac purple color. On the lips it really enhances them and makes them look very large. This is the first time I have liked a LeGloss color. There was also a shimmery bronze tone I bought too that was very pretty.

DSC07503DSC07513DSC07497DSC07499DSC07528DSC07563

As you can see from the photos above, this quad gives an awesome smoky eye. I used the dark shimmery gray in the crease, the dark eggplant charcoal in the outer corner of the lid and under the eye. On the rest of the lid I used the light shimmery grayish silvery-white and then on the middle of the lid I used just a hint of the dark shimmery gray to tie it all together and blend it. To line the upper lid I used Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner in Perversion (black). For mascara I used Maybelline’s Volum’Express The Colossal Cat Eyes. The Mystic’s Blush hardly showed up, so I was a little disappointed. I really like the gloss though, because it gives me the illusion of large lips. I am excited that L’Oreal is coming out with some good stuff again, back in the 1990’s I adored the line and purchased a good number of their products. This gives me hope that they will be back on top again soon!
