Everyone wants beautiful, glowing skin that looks bright not dull. It can be easily achieved through chemical exfoliation. If you follow a good skincare routine of proper cleansing, exfoliation/treatment and sunscreen; your skin will look bright and clear in no time. One product that works quite well at helping to clear up dull skin, is REN Skincare Ready Set Glow AHA Tonic.

This great chemical exfoliator has seven skin benefits, a 100% recycled plastic bottle and cult status. The tonic exfoliates, brightens, tightens pores and hydrates for a smooth, even toned and energized complexion that's all glow without the irritation. Formulated with gentle yet powerful lactic acid, salicin and azelaic acid precursor, this tonic has been developed to be used daily. It brightens skin and brings the glow back to to dull dry or tired looking skin. Lactic acid, which comes from yeast fermentation, acts to effectively exfoliate the skin's surface, as it breaks up dead skin cells and hydrates the skin at the same time; all without causing irritation to the skin. Salicin, from willow bark, helps reduce pore size and exfoliates at the same time and can clear clogged pores. Azelaic acid precursor from olives help boost radiance and even out skin tone. Orange peel oil is also an ingredient in this tonic and is high in AHAs. It helps to exfoliate the skin, add fragrance and brightens the skin tone. Orange flower oil in the tonic is also called bitter orange and works to calm oily skin and works to calm clogged pores. Grapefruit peel oil works to brighten dark spots on the skin, as it is high in AHAs. It is also effective in treating acne. Finally, tangerine peel oil is also included and is effective at helping to brighten the skin, unclogs pores and brightens the skin.

To use: saturate a reusable pad or cloth with tonic and swipe across clean skin. Avoid eye area. Use nightly before moisturizer. Make sure to use a SPF during the day or brightening effects will not be achieved, or will be decreased.

This tonic is very powerful. I would recommend its use on everyone except those with sensitive skin types (if you have sensitive skin and want to try it, do a patch test first). Dry and mature skins can use this but possibly only 2-3 times a week at the most. If you have normal skin, use this 3-4 times a week. Combination and oily skins could use this tonic more times, up to every day. I would say people with acneic skin can use this daily too. Make sure not to use it on open lesions.

I used it on my dry skin and the next two days my skin was literally coming off my face in in little balls when I rubbed on it. It exfoliates very well. Brightening effects take longer, as the ingredients in it have to literally stop melanin production in the melanocytes. As the skin exfoliates though and moves up through the layers of the epidermis through the 30 day cycle, skin will brighten and you will notice a difference. Almost all of the ingredients listed in this formula have brightening properties. Some have dual exfoliating/brightening properties. This product also helps to clear clogged pores, so you might notice a little purging too. I had a little bit of purging on my chin after I started to use it. I love this tonic and feel it is useful for those who want to achieve gentle exfoliation of the skin and some mild to moderate brightening effects. When I mean gentle, I mean a gentle yet powerful exfoliation that is not physical (like a scrub). I prefer chemical exfoliants over scrubs because they loosen the cells that are held together rather than literally tearing them off of the skin. Plus this tonic smells divine!

  1. How do you feel this tonic measures up to Pixi Glow tonic?

    1. Thank you for asking such a valid question! The Pixi Glow Tonic contains 5% glycolic acid as its main ingredient. So I would say the comparisons are not the same. They try to accomplish the same goal but the Pixi Glow Tonic cannot be used by almost all skin types the way Ready Set Glow can. Glow Tonic also has a high degree of Sodium Hydroxide in it, which is also known as lye (very aggressive and can cause irritation in those who are sensitive to it). Glow tonic has glycerin and aloe vera in it that helps make it more moisturizing, which is good. I would say Ready Set Glow is gentler on more skin types because of the lactic acid (known to be better for all skin types, especially dry and mature skins). Pixi Glow Tonic is something I wouldn't recommend it for sensitive skin because of the glycolic acid and sodium hydroxide in it. Hope this helps.
